Hi folks,

I have just arrived in Queenstown for working holiday. I would like to know where is a good place to hire a decent fast car while I'm here because my friends, who I am staying with have st cars. I'm only 24 so, will that be a no go on anything half decent? Thanks in advance

You might struggle... a 6-cylinder falcon XR6 might be the best you'll find... perhaps something like an MX5 or similar might be available.

Under 25 is likely to be much the same as here. No-one will rent you a Porsche.

As I remember, though from a few years ago and 25+ in Cairns we had very little choice and took an MX-5. It was a hoot, but it was realistically all we were going to get.

It wasn't as bad as NZ, where I couldn't find anyone to rent me a Chimaera despite having the T350 at home!

Best of luck.

I'm sure I'll see her again. When the little bugger is five, probably!

Have a good think about what you want from your car. NZ is like Ireland, you can do the tourist trail in almost anything. A proper performance car is a waste of time and money. Best car I've rented there was a Focus. And it was an auto.

Please don't rent an auto Nissan Sunni, mind. I very nearly killed my family falling asleep at the wheel.

Although says min age is 25.

Local Budget office has a new MX5 for $99 a day ( guess pre insurance etc), not sure of age.
