In my motel we get a lot of Brits through the door and as I've not been back for 5 years, I ask if I'm missing much in the UK compared to their experience of NZ. Everyone says I'm better off here and nothing to miss at all. So there you have it!!

It's a mixed bag.
They are a tiny population and in theory that means lots of space. But, a lot of money has come back with waves of ex-pats. It is quite a way rom anywhere else. Property is not that cheap. And they've had a massive influx of rich Chinese in some areas. Subdividing has taken it's toll on the more traditional style housing just as it is doing in the heavily populated areas here. Their industry has all but moved to Australia, and the tourist trade isn't that well paid.
As for cars? They drive a lot of second hand Japanese autos and there are strict, potentially expensive regulations if you want to bring in something unusual.
The weather is antastic, the countryside antastic, liestyle antastic, and the people antastic. But it isn't PetrolHead Nirvana. Liestyle Nirvana, i you are lucky.
Please orgive the damaged keyboard. Toddlers are great, really! I only have to hit every key twice now.

Hope its ok to ask?? Im wondering about how things are in NZ these days like jobs and prospects?? Im a mobile aircon serviceman and mecanic.. how is the economy and cost of living? is it still a great place to live ???thanks
Perhaps you could tell me what I'm missing about the UK and why I should return Thanks for all your replies, to be honest I visited NZ in 1995 and worked for a few monthes in Auckland. The people and the bussiness were very nice and I was treated like family.. I was young an stupid and should have taken the very generous offer of a permanent job and help to settle , however I could think of 50 reasons to stay and 50 to go back to the uk, I was back home and then the people I had been subcontracting too begged me to come back and promised me regular lasting work which was basicly just to get someone tempoary to sort out the mess they were in then they shafted me.. sooo I got on and found my own work retro fitting and repairing A/C systems on cars, trucks etc well now that work is mostly gone apart from specialist vehicles and service work is patchy at best with a string of wet summers and a lot of garages and fast fits doing aircon,
so do I carry on here or work towards a new life and start in NZ???

Been here getting on for 6 years now. Love the place as somewhere to live, its not without issues but..
Currently the ecconomy is a bit stuffed, even the earthquake hasnt seen the building trade pick up, tradesmen still paid relativly low vs Aus and given whats happening over there plenty will be leaving to work there.
Probably not a great financial time to move, nearly at 2:1 on the currency and UK house market is way more stuffed than here (if you own a house).
Typicaly the cities (auckland/welly/chch) are higher on the housing price but rentals are quite affordable, Auckland is the worst depending on where your work is.
I would have thought theres plenty of heatpump/air con work here tho, its a growing business as people shift from log burners, build new etc.

Well Everyone in NZ has at least one heat pump AC unit in their house so your in the right trade to be busy.
Ay what? Every moderately well off person perhaps, which is probably only half the population more or less. We don't have a heatpump, neither does anyone in my family or my fiance's family (excluding my youngest brother, who is way more well off than me) and a few of my friends.
