Day 1 yesterday - after 1.5 hours of racing Tony Quinn leads Clark Procter by 1 second. At lunch the margin was 1 second the other way. As long as they both stay on the road this is going to be an epic week of competition.

Live stage results and a daily video are linked off the home page www.targa.co.nz

Some video from the Taranaki yumps:

Not a lot of air being taken in the jumps compared to previous years but I think that's because the camera's on the last yump in the set.

No-one of that name in the entry list. What was he going to be driving?

He usually races an old (but seriously quick) TVR Griffith in the southern festival of speed.

Hi Wayne,

Have admired your cars for some time. Glad to hear you know Jack. You should come to NZ in Feb for our Classic race series.

Regards

Leyton

If you check into it alittle bit more you will find out that it is a TVR Tuscan # 15 I think. Yes he has a seriously quick car and he is quite the driver also. With people like him who we have met involved in track driving and ice racing, my 19 year old daughter is now interested in trying to get her license for ice racing. We need more people like him to keep the interest of the younger generations to continue our passions with cars and track time.

Guys/Gals: If you could keep posting links to videos I would really appreciate it. I haven't been able to find too much on the Targa and I have a hard time getting info/vids also on Festival of Speed held in Feb. each year.

Some of my photo galleries from the SFOS in previous years, missed it this year though I think.

Did anyone get any photos of me?? In Porsche 944 number 77 on Friday and then in the Caterham on the tour on Sat?
Sadly the cam pulley let go on the way over the rimutakas on Fri evening. We replaced the cam and pulley, but a couple of valves were bent.
Great fun while it lasted!
The Caterham is faster than the Porsche, but it feels all wrong not having a cage, helmet, overalls HANS etc. I did a few quick stages behind a 993 RS (They throw stones... lots of stones) and then put my sensible head on for the rest of the day. I didn't want to have to fix 2 cars....

I was marshalling on the Makara stage on a relatively mild left hander intersection. We had a pretty uneventful day - of all the cars that came through only one got a touch out of shape, and that was race leader Tony Quinn. On this 2nd to last stage and sitting on a lead of a few minutes he just had to finish to win, but he was obviously having too much fun to slow down. Good to see...

Congrats George on the finish - so how good was the Boxster as a Targa car?

Its a very cool car - sounds fantastic and stops like you wouldn't believe. More demanding than the 968 at the limit but our 2nd in class and 12th overall ain't too shabby. Our run wasn't without its dramas and challenges but a stock piece of kit (apart from headers and PSS9 suspension) its a pretty effective piece of kit. I'd have one.

I predict a 3 litre S2 motor is going to find its way into the car. Am I right Iain?
