What is the job situation like for qualified and experienced "railway people" in NZ? Just thinking long-term at the mo, but wouldn't mind working abroad in the next few years, so now is a good time for me to work on the skills that are wanted in the places I want to go...

oops! should've said. P-Way Engineering. Currently I look after structure clearances in a technical role, but also have P-Way and mechanical maintenance experience and hopefully will get some more training to allow me to design mechanical maintenance through structures.

Take a look at the Ontrack site - they manage the NZ rail network.

If I was you I'd phone Ontrack head office, ask for the person responsible for the kind of stuff you do and see if you can have a conversation about your future intentions and skills they may need. NZ's a small place, senior people are easier to reach than you might think.
