Looks like a lot of damage in Christchurch frown No deaths have been reported (here) yet at least. Everyone accounted for?

No casualties reported to date, couple of serious injuries... let's hope it stays that way... widespread infrastructure damage, power out to most, water off to most, wastewater disrupted.... hope our resident cantabs are all holding up okay.

Lots of damage in town and the ruptured duck resteraunt in sumner is very ruptured...

Good to hear - I read there were no casualties, just widespread utility outages, but..y'know...

That was one of my concerns, given the type of residences in Sumner.

Glad to hear you're all ok, family in Timaru report no damage there. Felt the initial quake strongly enough down here in the deep south to wake me up but no aftershocks.

Sounds like the people have gotten out of it pretty lightly even if the buildings havnt.

On an entirely materialistic level now the people are ok...Alot of the footage seems be be centering near litchfield street. I wonder how Fazaz coped given its an old brick building with a lot of very nice cars in it?

Very nervous opening the garage this morning.
All the bikes had fallen onto the Mitsi but luckily the Lotus was undisturbed.

I was quite surprised to see the news as there really isnt much damage in the suburbs - just a few chimneys down and block walls fallen over.

Could have been a lot worse all considered.

Wife and I are both sick of it (or from it). We both have motion sickness.

Yes indeed!! At very least hes gonna have a lot of car badges in there to pick up again!!

I was living in chch 4 weeks ago but am in Sydney at the moment!

Everyone I know is ok but the warehouses where I was living got a good pounding and some nice cars were badly damaged..............

Personally very lucky. Was in Queenstown so missed the ride. Back today all nine pushbikes that were wall mounted still where I left them above three cars...The others also safe and sound.

Only damage a smashed vodka bottle on the kitchen floor.

Sadly not all family and friends have been so fortunate some with badly damaged homes.

One family friend in an older central city bungalow has brick walls at each side of his house - both delaminated with 4 - 6 inch gaps at the top.

It's absolutely miraculous that no lives were lost as the quake was the same magnitude as the one that devastated Haiti. Timing is everything.

I hope everyone gets through the following months without to much frustration. It's early days yet considering repairs are required to so many homes and businesses.

I've no idea how my fellow Atom owners fared. Christchurch boasts 3 of New Zealand's 7 cars.

Although there have been lots of images on the News I found this link to a selection of media images quite awe inspiring.

Aftershocks are still happening too - they've had a 5.2 and a 5.4 in the last half hour.
