Hi guys.

The 'olds' are looking for recommendations for a decent, preferably cheap broadband provider, but we're half a world away. I can't imagine they need huge bandwidth, but cheap would be nice and Skype would allow them to see their grandkid(s). I suspect 'gramps' has had a cold sales call and it has given him bad ideas.

Can anyone give advice, or a pointer to more local review sites? They are Howick-ish.

Much appreciated.

If you have their phone number you can check availabiliy and speed here
http://www.telecom.co.nz/broadband
telecom is like BT most ADSL is via them

i use telecom and have no issues with it.
Any prices stated for any ISP will include you having your home line and tolls with them

Slingshot IMNSHO are ste having tricked two people i know into 256KB/256KB connections with their cold calling (speed was not the broadband experiance either were looking for)

Thanks!

I'm struggling to get telecom.co.nz's website to recognize their number (so, very like BT) but will persevere.

Tesltraclear will only provide it with a phone line, you'd be looking around $80 if that helps. I've heard bad things about Slingshot as well, namely making lots of false claims and tkaing over lines without permission

I've ended up with Slingshot, no way would I have Telecom or Telstra.

Once the problem with some wiring in the exchange was sorted the naked DSL plan has proven to be very useful. Three landline numbers, 25gb a month, 1500 minutes free calling round the world etc etc for $100 a month.
