Interesting project, but it's not really a 'car' is it. More a plane that is engineered to fly in two dimensions.... (which I guess is why it's unveiled at Farnborough). What would be the odds of surviving the record attempt?

With enough preparation, quite good.

I saw the first mock-up of this at Goodwood last year.

I don't understand how something so narrow can be stable at those sorts of speeds - Andy Green's danglies must be growing on a yearly basis!

I'm a bit puzzled as to why it needs a piston engine as well as two jet engines. is the petrol engine just to get it up to cruising speed or something?-or have they ditched that idea? I notice Wing Commander Green doesn't mention it in his verbal intro, though it's listed in the specs on that vid with the jokey CGI race with the fighter plane...

Bloodhound uses 1 jet engine and 1 rocket engine
The N2O oxidiser for the hybrid rocket needs to be forced into the combustion chamber to burn with the solid fuel. It can be done by gas pressure or a pump. Bloodhound are using a pump driven by an approx 750hp V8.
