Can anyone recommend an independent Pug garage, preferably in Wellington but having just been quoted $3k for a cambelt change on a 406 HDI by the local dealer (Armstrong) I would be willing to travel....

I've used Chuni Govan who's an independent Peugeot specialist (he's also part of the Peugeot Wellington Car Club). He was recommended to me by the previous owner of my car, and I'd happily recommend him to others. He's done a service and the cambelt/waterpump on my car.

When I've been over there I've seen a mix of older and newer Peugeots, so I'm sure he's be able to sort you out - and hopefully for less than 3k...

He's based out in Moores Valley behind Wainui - so Wellington ish... Contact number is 04 564 7504.

yes I asked him why it's more than double what a VAG dealer cambelt change costs and 'apparently' there's a lot of idlers and tensioners to replace. A quick google of UK forums suggests £300 - £400 is a typical cost there. One thing's certain - they will never see me or the car.
