Just wondered if its like the UK, where if you sign up for Broadband they tend to provide you with a router?

Or, should I pack our existing router in my luggage, or in the container?!

Many thanks

Generally they do yes, though it'll be the most basic one they can find so if you want wireless etc you'll want to either bring one with you and buy a new one here - they're pretty cheap really.

Buy one here. What works with one provider may not work with another. Also good broadband deals are not always wireless. An ADSL2+ connection is faster (24000/1000 kbps) than wireless (1500/128 kbps).

Telecom Nz gave me a 'free' D-link router when I moved down here, but I use the wireless draytek I brought down with me.
Broadband isn't a given if you go Rural, you'd have to go for a Satalite link. adsl2 is big citys only so far I believe.
As an aside, home phone handsets choice is a bit basic down here, if you want anything flash, buy before you leave.

the availability tool is quite cool.

Also i think the OP was going to wellington and IIRC telstraclear has cable there as another connection option

If you are heading for Wellington, get TelstraClear cable internet access - I'm getting some whopping download speeds at the moment. They are behind on providing HD on their TV feed though - but it will be here eventually.

Apparently my area is scheduled for adsl2 upgrade in June 2011. Won't hold my breath then.
