Help please on best/ cheapest way to send a parcel to UK?
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm now in the UK, but I have 3 x Hella Rallye 4000's off one of my rally cars that are still at my parents place in Christchurch.
They are really hard to get hold of here so I want to get 2 of them sent over, but the NZ post website says it will cost at least $160 as they weigh 3.5kg each.
My first thought is this seems like a lot, so I am hoping someone can either suggest an alternative, or re-assure me this is the going rate.
Cheers

Have you tried TNT or DHL?
I live in the Uk but am from NZ and whenever my parents send stuff to me, it does cost an absolute fortune - especially on anything over 2 kilos.
have a look at TNT and DHL but otherwise that is the price im afraid.
Oh and if you want it recorded delivery, you better get a second job to pay for that.

Unless you can find someone who has a Fedex account and frequently ships to the US or Europe and who will let you piggyback on their cheap rates NZ Post is the cheapest.

I've done the whole exercise several times shipping car parts to the US and unless the shipping cost gets up to around $400 DHL etc are more expansive than NZ Post. If things are bigger than a cubic meter and time isn't a problem there are container services but still only for much more expensive items.
Watch the packing. 18kg item to the US built a strong box and next thing it was 22kg Doh. A cardboard box, some cardboard spacers and then a can of foaming urethane does the trick, light and pretty bullet proof.
Cheers

I am going over initially myself in a couple of months, then returning with nothing to carry. I could hand carry them for you if time is not an issue??
Thank you very much for the offer. PH'ers generosity never ceases to surprise me every day!! Dave, I have to say I am very envious of your fantastic collection of vehicles too.Since my last post, I have had them shipped to the UK using NZ Post, along with a couple of other things from home (Sheepskin boots for the kids, chocolate fish, k-bars, etc - All the important things!).
They are now adorning the front of the Disco
Edited to add: The postage cost ended up being $158 and arrived in 5 days, in case anyone else is searching for a freight solution in future.
