Spent the weekend at this fantastic event, grass roots motorsport at its best. A cross-section of vehicles ranging from NZ rally champ Hayden Paddon in his Evo 8 to the PB Vauxhall which arrived at the event towing the portaloos, ran hard on its doorhandles all day, and towed them home again afterwards. And everything in between. Great fun anyway, I'll chuck some more photos up in dribs and drabs as I get them uploaded but here's a selection to start with:

Chris West giving a borrowed Impreza some beans to finish 0.07s slower than Paddon.

Yes, I was surprised too!

Very well presented car...

That deserves another photo.

Your eyes do not deceive you.

Ours not to reason why.

Ben, fantastic shots!
Was Allport driving the 7 again? He got a severe spanking from one of our 1600cc offroaders in the Ashley sprint a few months ago. I'm keen on attempting to repeat the spanking given an engine with all 6 of the rod bearings in place.

Rob Murray was driving the Mainfreight RX7 (he owns it AFAIK) and Mark Leonard (2wd record holder on that hillclimb) the other.

Was impressed by Glenn Inkster's pace at Ashley Forest actually, IIRC he got his Group-A spec Evo 6 into the mid-58s before clutch problems put him out. Brilliant driver to watch, bit of a loose unit! Had a few laughs helping extract him from down this bank in the Catlins a while back:

This MR2 is my Uncles car which he lent to me for the event!biggrin It was good fun but it had serious issues with traction as I had 165/70R14 TOYO snow tires fitted lol. Believe it or not this MR2 is the best I have ever seen condition wise, well at least it will be once it has had a good clean!
