Targa goes to Hampton!

We have to fix the 944 first.. took it to a trackday at Manfieldd today to shake out the bugs. Unfortunatly we found one. Looks like the cam belt tensionser failed to do its job.. the belt slipped and valves met pistons. We are going to be getting some quality garage time in over the next couple of weeks. Still better that it failed here than on the Targa.
Up untill then the 944 was going really well. Handling was excellent and the brake upgrades have worked well (still a bit of air in the system to get out though).
I also took the Caterham, which ran like a swiss watch all day. Much fun overtaking things.

Sorry to her that, I am sure you have got it covered, however if you feel the need for an extra pair of hands to help sort it let me know. Thanks for the offer D1GGY. We made a start this morning and as expected we found the tensioner had died.. the bearing had disintegrated. Wonder where all the ball bearings went... we only found 2. We also got a full house with the valves.. the whole lot are bananaed.
We have a spare engine, and have been raiding it for bits for a while. We took the head off, and it looks pretty good. Well get it checked out tomorrow.
This weeks main job will be to find all the bits we need (Gasket set, new tensoner & idlers) Hopefully we will get it all put back together next weekend. No pressure.. just have to get it right the first time.

Progress update: The head's back on and hopefully we won't ever have to see those pistons again - twice in 18 months is definitely too many. We're waiting on a package from the US with the belt and idlers - with any luck that will arrive in the day or two as our plan is to fit them one night this week so Iain can drive it up to Akld next weekend.
The pistons were alright - they'd taken a bit of a pounding around the valve recess, but that tidied up OK so it was fairly straightforward though time consuming head swap in the end. It was a nice bit of luck that the head on our donor looks to have been recently reconditioned.
And in other news - I've decided to dip my toe into social networking by tweeting on our progress through the event. We're often sitting around in start queues or in service stops so my plan is to send off brief tweets with a google maps pushpin attached and the odd pic. Hopefully full of boring news about how well its all going, and would be cool to hear back from anyone following us along!
