article said:
AA Insurance deputy GM Martin Fox says the stats also show 85% of cars stolen were first registered before January 2000.

He says that's probably because older cars lack sophisticated security systems like in newer models.
Nothing to do with being the majority of cars on the road then...

Always said that's what I loved about the GTi6. All of the driving thrills of something like a Civic or Integra Type R (which are brilliant cars) but with none of the theft risk smile

hehe

It would be interesting to see results corrected for how common the cars are - ie [number stolen]/[number registered]

Or results issued by the police. Many NZers don't have insurance, so I imagine there are many cars, especially modified ones, not included in the AA's data. Also, the AA have consistently given me higher insurance quotes, so many younger people (owning cars that are often nicked) may be with other companies.

Did anyone see 3 News? They had a picture of an R34 Skyline where the Silvia picture should have been, and an R34 as the Skyline picture as well.

I fully agree, Ive never had a competitive quote from them. However given the cars on the list I cant see how it would do more than strengthen then results.

Try $2k full cover for an MR2, the N/A model, garaged, alarmed, clean licence, 18 year old. I don,t have a garage so they said they couldn't insure me, so I asked hypothetically how much it would be. I actually laughed out loud when she told me. State said they would do it for under half that I seem to remember.

I haven't even tried them since getting a flat 'no' on my first 2.0 NA Legacy wagon when I was 18. Have been with AMI since, they were by far the best for the GTB (was 23 when I bought it), only because of 7 years no-claims though.

Aren't Lotus a British firm. Built in Norfolk, no? Things may have changed lately but as a TVR driver I couldn't give an arse about sewing machines....
