Telecom XT Network
Discussion
Perhaps it's just me, but I'm beginning to get an overwhelming urge to lock Richard Hammond in a shipping container and drop him in the deepest part of the Waitamata harbour, without a key or a telephone.
Actually, sorry, that's not nice to the Hampster. I'll take it all back.
I'd just lock in Telecom's marketing and advertising people instead. And the guy who does Hampsters hair on the ads...

Its funny how journalists become celebrities themselves isn't it. Does anyone know if they actually dropped the container into the sea or was it all CGI? I would be impressed if a helicopter could carry a shipping container. I can hear the bloody ad playing in the other room right now.

It was a big helicopter so expect so - an empty container is probably lighter than (for example) a full monsoon bucket.
The ad seems to imply that XT is only available in Auckland
Really?? Well the ad is cack then, I thought the bird on the back of the farm bike was implying coverage in rural NZ not just the back of Auckland The ad seems to imply that XT is only available in Auckland

Empty shipping containers are about 2 ton.The ad seems to imply that XT is only available in Auckland
30 ton max load.
See working as a wharfie for a couple of months was useful after all.
So a piece of cake for a heavy lift chopper like that.

yeah Whitford, Rural AUCKLANDI thought there was a shot in a tunnel in Wellington?
shall I start my usual rant about marketers assuming the only place within NZ is that "super" "big little" city?

I don't understand why the advertising is all about range and coverage which is just the same as existing cellphones? The point of XT is so you can begger yourself by using it for linking to the net at a zillion dollars per second.
So why the lies about stunt woman NOT inside a container within sight of land. Couldn't they find a row boat?
I'll bet the hamster has a clause in the contract saying this ad is never to be shown in the UK. Same as all the USA stars who don't do ads but have lucrative Japanese contracts. Never to be seem in the US.
Cheers
Mark

Indeed - I notice most of the ads are on YouTube - better go and post them in General Gassing... 80)Zaphod said:
Yeah, first shot is Mt Victoria Tunnel, Wellington.
Not wearing a seatbelt either. Naughty naughty.Spectacularly crap ad though - doesn't to anything to demonstrate that their coverage is any better than any other network. Hell, I'm sure that Telecom had coverage on the auckland harbour bridge 20 years ago...

Yeah that impresses me, Auckland harbour bridge? Fine!! Auckland harbour, Fine!
Fjordland...??...?
The Grizzled Ancients here will understand the marginal relevance of that.Fjordland...??...?
When cellphones first came out around Auckland the Harbour Bridge was famous for having bad coverage close to the central spans. Hasn't been a problem for 10+ years
