Just found an old mate...
Discussion
Back in the old days I use to hang out with a bunch of petrol head mates who could often be found on Neilson st, Onehunga on a Friday night participating in the illegal drag racing that used to take place. We had a 'sleeper' an ancient (even then) Ford Anglia we had shoe horned a 2L Cortina engine into. Which just goes to show that despite the fact we all hate boy racers, they're hardly a modern invention.
Anyway I'm watching TV Ones coverage of the Targa Bambina last Sunday, when a face from the past pops up. It would appear nothing has changed with him, as he had entered a 1974 Reliant Scimitar with an LS1 Commodore engine somehow occupying the engine bay. Now Richard was never known for his prowess behind the wheel back then and it would appear nothing has changed in the intervening 20 plus years.
Some kind soul has uploaded the segment on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH48uy_JHwk worth a watch in case you missed it, but Richard puts in a brief appearance at the 3:30 mark. Not a great way to start your Targa career...

Great to see an old Scimitar racing, real shame about the accident! Hope driver/co driver were ok.
Do anyone have any pictures or more details of that Scimitar (or any other Scimitar racers)?
Kind Regards

Dave, There's another one for sale on Trade Me (that's NZ's version of eBay) that has competed in some Targa tarmac rally events over recent years. We were running behind them in an event last year and only passed them twice - once when they overheated and again when they put it down a bank
I don't have access to this site through the work firewall right now but go to www.trademe.co.nz click on 'Motors' and search scimitar and you'll find it. You can ping an email to the owner through his listing if you want to.
