It also had a 4-page spread in (I think it was) NZV8 magazine about a year back. Owner Tony P has a business doing security card systems - I've met him a few times through the local sailing club and last time I asked he intended to race it, but either the plan's changed or times are too tough to hang onto it. It was built to pretty much the maximum factory spec including a 740bhp Amerispeed lump.

I saw it parked at Smith & Smith glass in Te Rapa, Hamilton a while back.
Stopped and took a look, very nice finish....beautiful wheels and AP brakes smile i noted at the time to my mate that the brakes alone are worth more than my Alfa wink

Now I know these are different cars-and One's HERE and the other's not... but last time I looked there were 3 going in UK for around the 30k GBP mark... so 200-250k seems a bit optimistic

Don't forget this is newly built and as I understand to the highest factory spec available, so I don't think would be comparable to ones going for that sort of money in the UK. I suspect it owes him well over $200k as the build was done by an engineering firm over many months, but hard to imagine anyone here stumping up much more than... what... $120k at the most? Problem is at that sort of money most buyers will want a badge, and those who know what it is are as likely to prefer to build their own.

And it wouldn't be easy on them either. One huge advantage with light weight and lower power . . . consumables thumbup

There's absolutely no reason why you couldn't pick up an Ultima in the UK for 30k GBP and it be every bit as good as this one, maybe even better depending on how well it was built. The spec' is nothing special - standard interior, gel-coat finish, lower spec' motor, no wing etc.

I wonder if the chap is trying to make a fast buck or if he's stuck for cash? I can't think of any other reason for building one of the most mental road cars on the planet and only putting a few hundred kms on it. If I had one I'd use it every day! Mind you I'd also have spec'd it with an LSx engine with fuel injection instead of one of those American Speed creations. Weird choice that, given the fact that SBC are ten a penny here compared to the UK.

Turners estimates are always b0ll0cks.

30k GBP car is not far off a $120K car Jaime. But yeah know what your saying its worth the look for sure to get what you want. Add import tax, shipping, other transit, wharf, maf charges, inspections and on road costs here after compliancing it adds up real quick. Boooo frown

I asked him about the LS1 choice a couple of years back and it was basically just because the factory didn't offer it, I'm not sure he was even aware that LSx options existed. Even though it's the iron block, and Amerispeed horses have the same reputation as TVR ones, I wouldn't have thought their 720 (or is it 740) hp NA option which was the highest at the time could be called 'lower spec'. I still don't think you'd buy one with that engine virtually brand new for £30k.

A lot of the owners I met during my ownership, who had build the car themselves, more enjoyed the build more than the owning or driving of the car, so they sold them on with quite low millage's on the clock...

Others things seemed to be the reasons for those who didn't build there own, like me, often they said things like... the GTR is awkward to get in and out of, it's noisy as fck, hot to be in, you get a sore back after a while on UK roads... and it's scares the crap out of a lot of people who drive it... plus every chav (or M5 BMW) on the road wants to drag you...

I take it all back... just flicked through the Classic Car mag article and that one, which is presumably the one that is for sale, is a different red Ultima to the one I know about. silly
