Well,

Had 3 weeks in New Zealand and loved it. Cracking place. However....... got pulled twice for speeding. first was for 140 in a 100. Policeman was on his way to court and told me to slow down before sending me on my way. Next time was an $80 fine by the most boring man on the planet. Didn't even bother to talk to him. Then smashed the Holden up in the car park......which was nice.

Now to start work on that Visa.

Cheers.

I'm afraid you don't sound too bright, going to a new country, taking the pi** and getting done twice in three weeks.

I believe the correct procedure is to behave like a saint for a few months, get the feel of the place and the way it operates before ramping round.

We would not like foreigners comming over and disregarding our laws as soon as they arrive. Yes, the laws might be crap and draconian, but if you want to come here you abide by them at least to start with. grumpy

No need to be afraid...Im not the violent type. Since when did not being too bright become a crime?

Really? So it's acceptable to break the law if you've lived in a country for a few months? Makes sense.

As above.

Immigration. However the OH suggests I'll be fine having lived together over here for a while and coming over with her. One company offered to help with a partner visa....for £1700!!

A bit harsh?, what do you want to go back for?? So you can speed?

If you feel the need to speed do a track day at Manfield or Taupo to get it out of your system for a while or venture into those surrounding hills to challenge yourself or back country roads, dont speed on the main highways unless you want the attention. As said lay low and just settle in. Take up new hobbies that dont involve speeding. eek Otherwise you will get biffed out at this rate frown

Hah he's not been back in the UK long yet - I had a NZ speeding fine in the post 2 months after I got back (missed a 50 sign into a town I think....)!

As for the visa do NOT pay a company to help you, use the nzis website to help you (points calculator etc). Its straigth forward unless your struggling for points and cant get a job. Costs a bit tho.

You broke the law? You were speeding? Qucik, Peretperkins, get him!

Tis easily done when you bored. I didn't realise that the original Saint Peter frequented these parts.

Yeah, £1700 is a p!ss take. I think I'll be ok with a job sorted, and given my experience hopefully that won't bee too difficult, however, given these times etc... oh, and the fact that I don't come over as particularly bright....Praps Saint Pete will take pity on me and sort something out.

Cheers.

My first day in NZ I got done for speeding, got done on a number of occasions after but have now slowed down.
In the UK you can cruise along an A rd or motorway at 95mph (70 limit) and noone cares, here you get nailed at 8km over!

Anyway, visa, you used to have to prove that you have been together for a minimum of 3 years or be married. I arrived with my Kiwi girlfriend and our 4 month old son and was turned down as we had only been together 2 years - not considered a long term relationship. Got married a month later and was approved immediately - a bit old fashioned.

Old fashioned are we? When I applied for entry/work visas for myself and my partner of 6 years based on my patriality rights, I was told by the British High Commission that defacto relationships aren't recognised. Period.

That surprises me, I didnt think the marriage certificate carried much weight nowadays anywhere.

Really? Sh!t. I've ordered my "pack" and it led me to believe that as we've been living together for over a year, and the fact that the OH wants to return home, that a work visa wouldn't be a problem. TBH I don't really want a 1 or 2 year visa, as I think this will put potential employers off.

So, you think we'll have to get married eh?! Not a problem ,we'd planned to get it all done in the Maldives....but I guess some registry office in town will have to do!

Cheers.

ps - About the driving. God knows how I'm supposed to keep the R1 below 100k's.

I lasted 12 months as a road bike owner here before taking up racing (600 supersport). Plenty of trackdays available (as someone mentioned earlier) at sensible prices.

Or get an R6, itll be just as fast in every situation that actually matters and at least youll have a chance of going the speed limit. Plenty of nice 600cc sports bikes around, though the R6 and R1 are more nice track bikes to start with compared to alot of the other bikes they compete against.

Dont understand thou sportsbikes

Track time is a lot cheaper here than UK.

Also dont worry too much about a 1 or 2 year work visa, not that I think you'll end up with one, but we came over on a wort to residence visa, only had to work 3 months before converting that to PR.

All NZ realy cares about is you can support yourself and wont be a drain on the health service.

Had the 600's and the 750. Wanted the 1000 for the track as well as the road.

Cool. We have plenty of cash, and should be able to secure some kind of job. The Mrs won't struggle, but I think I might have to accept something a bit away from my current role, but hey, it's a very small price to pay.

Cheers.
