I had a useful chat to Graeme at River Carbon and he sent this close up pic:
Looks very nice - and the quoted $1500+GST seems pretty fair for the amount of carbon and work involved.
It is 1.5m long, 300mm wide, and weighs just over 5Kg. It's relatively heavy to meet the design criteria of no more than 5mm deflection. On Peter's car it makes 400kg down force at 180mph.

Roll on Le Mans '09... Audi's got competition
That price is just for the wing. Peter (Chim owner) apparently has CNC programs for the mounts and end plates for his and could redo them as he has an engineering shop, but I'll be doing something different anyway. RiverCarbon can do the hard points for the mounts anywhere - I'll probably line them up with the boot edges - but have to mock it up to see what looks right first.
I found this setup guide which has a good section on wing aerodynamics and practical setup and testing info.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=resu77vBKm0 there's a 1971 Gulf ad on there somewhere too....

Cheers for those... so far the Gulf scheme is still the plan, but I have my moments of doubt. I might just spray it in the blue and do the rest with vinyl as its quite incredible what they can do with it now.
Here's a clip that made me smile nervously the other day - a Tuscan racer which is competing with some success in Targa style events in the UK. Worth a look at some of his in car clips too.

My guess is he dabbed the brake a bit hard when he realised what a big lump he was about to go over

I guess a quick on topic update is in order since it's been dragged up....
Like everything else, the cage is taking 4 times as long as expected, but is nearly done now and last I saw Automotion were making a really nice job of it.
They got MSNZ's approval to use the original cage mounts which is a big plus as it saves cutting through the body and making new mount points on the chassis (I want to be able to unbolt and remove the body again, so can't just weld the cage to the chassis). The side impact bars will be removable but when they're on the door cards will have to come out.
I accidentally bought a set of unused 6-pot AP Racing calipers off another Targa competitor for the bargain price of $1500 - I hadn't meant to upgrade brakes until after the car is on the road, but it was too good an offer to turn down and was going to have to be done sooner or later anyway. So now I have to find a set of 18" rims as the standard 17" ones I've got won't fit around them. These eventually came up - a well used set of Works 8.5 and 9.5" rims. They look good enough to race in and the slicks will come in handy some time no doubt :

I'm not sure that the offsets are going to work out, but they're not too far out so I figure the only way to find out is to bung em on and see.
