Simons Hotrod progress
Discussion
Progress has been slow in the last year with funds being poured into the S350. But he has made some progress and its looking good. So got some natural bright light into the garage today for some pics underneath. All the painted parts underneath are black with purple pearl and the body will be gloss black.
If we ever get the funds and time to strip off the Esprit underneath it will be getting the same treatment.

Below painted sump. All the painted parts underneath is painted black with a purple pearl through it. Although the actual car body is going to be black
Below look towards the rear

Impressive as those photos look Kylie, having seen it in person they still don't do it justice, Simon (and I'd imagine some of your!) patience and attention to detail on that is just incredible.
Is that the new boots for the S350 I see in the background as well? What tyres did you go for in the end?

I have heard of no other S350s running them so will be interesting, the reviews seem to stack up esp for repeated thrashings on the track. Choices for me are limited and I didnt fancy the current choices people were using - too avg. Pirellis dont make the rears any more not even close. Most have gone to Toyo T1R or Goodyear thats it. I really need two sets of wheels Toyo R888 and TIR for everyday road would be great. Ill dream for now
Just to save typing it all again here is some progress on the rod http://www.roddingroundtable.com/forums/viewtopic....
Hi Kylie.
I was just looking at the pictures of the rear suspension setup.
Are those rod end bearings on the inner end of the lower suspension arms and trailing arm?
I ask this because you may have binding problems with the setup using rod ends.
If this is the case, the lower arm will rise up and down and have no fore/aft movement. The trailing arm moves up and down in an arc. This would therefore 'pull and push' the lower arm forwards and backwards, not a desirable situation as eventually one of the rod ends will break.
I saw this on a similar car, where the guy had a Watts linkage AND a panhard rod as well for axle location. Both operate in different planes. The result of this was a rod end breakage and a serious crash through a power pole.
Its ok in the standard Jaguar setup, as the trailing arm is mounted in very elastic rubber mounts, so there is an available movement, but rod ends dont move, they break.
Could be an idea to remove the shock absorber and spring and check for binding.

It has rod ends at one end and heim joints at the other plus an additional bar at the top that a Jag doesn't have and anti climb bars on the actual centre member to counteract acceleration forces
If I remove the coil overs I can move the rear suspension through it's entire arc by hand .
An arc greater than the springs will actually allow in reality
I am confident it doesn't bind anywhere I have better pics but no idea how to post them I will get Ky to do it

Hehe nice, it's those little things which inevitably make the car I doubt it will be entered as an unfinished project this year with the club as done before. Its supposed to go to the painters in next few weeks and im meant to be working on a nifty little design he wants to airbrush along the sides in between final clear coats. Which reminds me....
Got some more done yesterday while Ky was at the concourse I could make a mess in the garage http://www.roddingroundtable.com/forums/viewtopic....
