I'm travelling to New Zealand in February 09 for three weeks and would like to hire a Land Rover. Pick up at Auckland Airport.

Not fussy;

Freelander 2 (diesel or petrol)
Disco 2 or 3 (preferably a petrol)
Range Rover L322 or P38 or even a Classic (must be petrol)

I have scoured Google to find hire companies but have so far drawn a blank.

New Zealand 4WD Hire have had all their Land Rovers block booked by a bloody travel agent and only have a Kia left. They don't know of anyone else.

Does anyone else know of anywhere else or have any ideas??

And, yes, it does have to be an LR because I'm paying and I like them!

Bit of a long shot but consider emailing the one of the Auckland dealers and see if they can sort a package for you with a used car on their lot?

I'm with Kylie on this. LRs are very reasonable to buy-esp Petrol ones and dealers would prob do you some sort of buy-back scheme. see trademe.co.nz

Hertz or Avis does Toyota Prados - a much better car than a Land Rover (bitter ex-owner)

Thanks for this, if you can find the leaflet I'd be grateful.

As a general update;

Thanks for all helpful ideas / and suggestions so far.

I have emailed the Land Rover main dealer in Auckland, (Archibald & Something) but have not yet had a response. I am in the process of trying the hire companies listed...

Any more ideas welcomed!
