Morning all,

Would anyone have a link or two advertising businesses for sale in the Wellington area?

Many thanks.

It's pretty a fragmented market and a lot of businesses are sold through agents or personal networks rather than advertising. Trade Me has a section, or www.yellowpages.co.nz and search on business sales to find agents. Once again, I'd suggest doing little until you're here.

Here's a couple of links
http://www.colliers.co.nz

What type of business are you looking for? If you know, then aim for a broker specialising in that field (farming LOL biggrin).
Many of the real estate sites you'll already be familiar with have commercial listings but TradeMe is probably the best option for general ideas.
There is also http://franchise.co.nz/ if thats takes your fancy. I've heard Subway is a money maker.

I bought a motel business, long hours but get the right location and it'll earn you a living. Keep it successful and you should also get more than you paid when its time to move on.

Cheers Mark, appreciate that.

Prob looking at a bar/restaurant. Only a little small one, prob a wine bar kinda place. The mrs is from a retail background and has managed many a bar/restaurant in the busier parts of London. I'm just an office boy who'd wash up and do the accounts!

As has been said, TradeMe is probably the place to look to get an idea what's available and costs.

Stating the obvious- but retail and traditional business are hurting -in fact anything where you're asking people to spend money is a gamble at present. I guess upside of that is that you could buy a trad business at low price if you're prepared to accept low growth/profit for the forseeable future. Sorry to sound gloomy; Pooh and Piglet insist it's my nature but I think I'm just a realist.

No probs at all, glad for your thoughts.
The OH and I have had the same conversation. She suggests that in her experience, the type of people that usually buy 3 maybe 4 bottles of wine at £30 a pop, will still frequent such bars, but in "hard times" will perhaps reduce the quantity. Or the type of person that usually eats in the most expensive of restaurants, will perhaps reduce the cost by eating out at a cheaper one.

When a market for one type depleats, another opens. I guess it's a case of chosing the right target market.
