Hi All.

Some of you will know that I've been running a build diary of how the Exige is going on various car forums I frequent. I've just decided to start this up in the PistonHeads Elise/Exige/Europa/340R forum as well. Instead of duplicating it here, I'll just bump this topic whenever I've updated it. So without further ado, I present to you the unholy mess I've made of what was once a very nice Lotus Exige:

Would have come to see it while I was up your way but didn't end up spending much time at all in Auckland, only really an hour or 2 each side of flying in and out.

This is phenomenal, George. Do you remember sleeping at all in last 6 months?

I managed to squeeze in naps while waiting for POR15 coats to dry smile

But seriously, it's been a bi task... we've been busy at work for much of it, so it's been a matter of a few Sundays and late nights and just whenever I can fit time in smile

Pardon my crudeness, but HOLY CRAP George! That's quite an undertaking. You really are passionate about that car (guess you should pardon my penchant for understatement too). hehe

Checked up on the motor department at KW on Saturday George while getting a WOF. Not much is happening I take it your not in a hurry to have it back ?

Anyway we all think your going to have the most sorted Exige once done. So credit to you for doing a proper ground up resto smile

Yeah the engine's on hold Kylie. I'm probably going to rebuild it myself here, but need to get the chassis back in one piece before I can start. I'm talking to some K-series gurus in the UK and probably going to do a parts order with them soon and get a bunch of new bits here before I start. I'm still on a search for someone to build it though if I can find somebody competent

More bumpage for more progress..... albeit sloooow progress.

Don's Cerb rebuild is TOTALLY eclipsing my poxy effort..... given how much effort I'm putting into mine, that's a real testament to the quality of the work he's doing!

nono You crazy dude! The bodywork that Mike is doing is truly stunning and a testament to HIS work (my contribution involves mostly sitting behind a desk earning $$$ to pay for it!). I'll tell you for a fact, the attention to detail in your component cleanup, wishbones, etc. is streets ahead of what I've done so don't beat yourself up - you'll have what must surely be the best S1 Exige in the world when you're done!

Well let's not forget that I'm not the only one working on mine either... it's looking increasingly like I won't be doing the engine build as we're coming into a busy time at work and I simply won't have the time to put into a meticulous engine build. I shall still manage it though.

More progress posted up today, got the fuel tank stripped. It's now etched and pre-paint finished, will be painting tomorrow as I've run out of time tonight to do the requisite two coats. Really happy with how that's gone today though and it should look a million earth monies when finished... I've even ordered a replacement shear-panel warning sticker (that affixes to the bottom of the tank) from Lotus to replace the one I had to destroy before paint stripping [/pedantic]

Doubting it.... it might be back together by then but it'll have running in and mapping to go after that before it's track-fit again.
