Sorry I cant help you out on the Job question but regarding the Jag. S-Types are relatively plentiful here and dont command huge prices. Currently theres two on trademe:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Jagu...

Unless you have a particular attachment to the car Itd be cheaper to sell it there and buy another one here if you really want an S-Type over anything else

Not wanting to put a damper on your enthusiasm, my experience here in NZ is that most job ads from larger companies state that you must already be legally allowed to work in NZ before they will consider your application - so please don't be disappointed if you get that response. It may be different with smaller specialised outfits who may recognise your skills as unique and in demand. You can also try googling some specialists and email them directly. For example Powerhaus in Wellington. Good luck.

Not trying to steer off topic here, but why to Brits that settle here choose NZ over Oz. I mean mean Oz is bigger, arguably better health care, sl higher paying jobs etc. I guess you get more bang for the buck here when you cash in the hard earnt pound?

I guess it depends on lifestyle too - as a fresh uni grad I could go to OZ and earn double what I get here (or significantly more than that in the WA mines), but to me the extra money wouldn't be worth giving up the lifestyle I have here.

I tend to agree more with Kylie than Ben. The only things stopping me moving to Aussie are my family is in NZ (though my sister just moved to Melbourne) and it seems like far too much hassle moving countries...and neither of those problems affect someone emigrating here.

Not everyone like scorching sunshine and thirty plus degrees of heat with no seasons,NZ wins everytime for me.
However, a mechanic here in NZ?, i wouldn't expect to get paid much in relation to everyday costs.Wages are not good in most cases compared to many other parts of the world, more so the UK.I'd probably be near the mark that in NZ 99% of spanner twirlers are thought of as low skilled.Sad but thats NZ, just fitters not engineers here.
Having spent 30 years in the UK along with many other countries, NZ has the lowest level of mechanical skills i've witnessed, but the highest level of been able to keep something going with with the least amount of back up.....lash ups here are staggeringly wonderfulwink

Kiwi's are well respected in the UK - good people, great work ethic, etc.
Aussies? Not quite so highly regarded is all I will say, so living with 10 million of them is not a wonderful thought to most of us.

And why did we get lumbered with the POM thing? Should be the Aussies, they are the Prisoners Of Mother England.

Well off topic here, maybe us POM's should start a new thread, Wikipedia says

"The term pommy or pom is commonly used by speakers of Australian English, New Zealand English, South African English and Afrikaans. It is often shortened to pom. The origin of this term is not confirmed and there are several persistent false etymologies, most being backronyms, an example of which would be P.O.M.E, Prisoner Of Mother England.

The Oxford English Dictionary strongly supports the theory that pommy originated as a contraction of "pomegranate". The OED also suggests that the reason for this is that pomegranate is extinct Australian rhyming slang for immigrant; it cites an article from 14 November 1912, in a once-prominent Australian weekly magazine The Bulletin: "The other day a Pummy Grant (assisted immigrant) was handed a bridle and told to catch a horse." "

I don't know if it's still the case but Aussie used to be more difficult to get into compared to NZ. I've spoken to several people who emigrated here so they could slip into Aussie via the back door. All but one of them either stayed here or came back.

I've only seen small bits of Aussie but I think it's a great country but then I don't suffer from that NZ vs Aussie rivalry. Being English I'm treated with contempt from both sets of people!wink

The main thing that would put me off of going to Aussie is the number of things that want to kill you! Snakes, sharks, spiders, crocs etc etc. The adorable Platypus will sting you and the cute and cuddly skippy will disembowel you with his hind legs as soon as look at you (or jump in front of your car on the motorway).

Back to topic - get a job to get yourself established then set up as a specialist on your own. There's good money to be made as a mechanic with his own business and you'll get plenty of work via Pistonheads if you're any good!wink
