Waiuku Flying 50
Discussion
Went out to this event for 2 hrs to see some of the cars doing sprints around the street circuit. While most of the cars were in the classic age category there was still some modern toys floating about that managed to get some laps. On the whole if you like classics there were plenty on display from various marques and pretty good turn out from the public..
Simon checking out the impressive little 2-11 Aparently the owners flew this car in from UK to get it running for a previous event. If you got over $10K to do so why not!!!

One for Roger

My favourite nutter mobile, always awesome to watch.

I spent the day int he garage, had hoped to go down to this to put the car in the display, but took it to bits in anticipation of the weather being crap (last time I trust the forecast). Was going to go down for the Concourso Euro today but on the whole that sounds a bit boring.... off to the beach with some mates instead

He was not holding back in that RS200!
Chris from the Fraser club had the big "off" of the day, straightlining a chicane but then arriving with too much speed at next corner. Continuation of a nightmare year for him-this is rebuild number three! Neil had a few moments too-that corner nearest the pits near the Shell station seemed to cause a bit of excitement. I noticed that many of the drivers were packing vidcams-so expect some new Youtube stuff. Pity it got stopped early thanks to local halfwits drinking too much beer and kicking balls onto the circuit. I got to do 4 low speed laps with the 7s and it looks a pretty challenging course. There are some lovely roads out there, pity I couldn't make the road trip this a.m....
Didn't see you there Kylie. I was hiding under a tree near the skateboard park but still I'm doing a pretty good lobster impression today...

Hi Roger we got there about 1ish and left around 2:30. We arrived just as the 7's were doing some kind of parade lap around the track and the 2-Eleven came in to park. We were just hanging out around the pit area and walking around the left side of the course overlooking that tight corner back to the pits to see any action. Then we walked to the south side corner. We were bummed as we also came to see a mate of ours run the porsche speedster, couldnt find him and catch up with another Loti owner who just left oh well.
I think its great they managed to make this event happen, street races are always tops, brings out some cool cars.
Boy its hot out there today. Got so much done though

It's amazing, Kylie. My Fraser just goes and goes. I service it when I'm supposed to....and that's it! Talking to others in the club who have bought second-hand, there have been ongoing issues with some of them-the dry-sump ones mostly. I did do in a clutch on my one and only play at Puke, but you get that. No, no plans to enter next year. I'd rather do a nice rural hillclimby thing with no lampposts!
Graham re trailer, no wouldnt have a clue, looks like some highly modded horse float, where they have added a nose on as you can see the seam, but who knows, Roger Phillips at Lotus Cars may have a better idea. I am sure hes spent a fair bit of time chatting to the owners.
Hope you get better too btw. I have been crook for the last month, nasty head/chest cold going around at mo
All good to go now though!!

Hey, FYI the new Lotus 2-11 is mine..and the trailer is NOT a converted horse float. However I can understand thats what it possibly looks like.
I had it made specifically for the Lotus by Dolphin trailers in Rotorua.
I was disappointed not to have raced the Lotus at Waiuku, but the event was limited to classic cars only ie older than 15 years....Maybe next year.

Welcome in! I saw you at Whittakers on the Sunday and you seemed to be holding up pretty well, especially since you were obviously only in your second day on track in the car.I had it made specifically for the Lotus by Dolphin trailers in Rotorua.

FANTASTIC bit of kit you've got there and would love to blag a passenger ride in it at some point if that's at all possible. I've noticed yours is the "Track Spec" version (well judging by the rear wing etc)... is it road legal in NZ or do you plan on using it only for motorsport?

Hi Paul welcome aboard, I am glad you finally found your way here. Great toy and set up you have, was rather envious of your wife/partner in the passenger seat, she must love it!!! I take it you have joined Club Lotus ?? See you hopefully at the next event. Theres some nice Loti in the country now and more arriving soon. More Loti the better.

George/Kylie, Yes I love it. Your correct George, mine is the track version..larger carbon wing, very long front splitter..which I will probably split!!, and in NZ this is all road legal, unlike the UK. In Australia it is NOT road legal, so we finally have something over them.
Kylie..that wasnt my wife in the car..it was one of the Council organisers.
Come and see me at the next meeting..probably Taupo 5-7th Jan 08 and I will take you for a spin.

Wow thank you and I promise to take you up on your offer.
We are flying back from Timaru that weekend to Auck. But I am sure there will be other times to hook up for a hoon. Where do you reside Paul?
Apart from club meets and track days we also do some fun Pistonhead runs, see the new thread I started just now with the link of one of our runs. Theres a mixture of nice cars from various marques to add to the fun.
