I have friends over from the UK that are touring NZ and we will be meeting up in Auckland on Friday.
Any recommendations for good accommodation thats not too pricey and is in a good central location for the touristy stuff and handy for the Civic theatre as want to see We Will Rock You. (Seen WWRY three times in London so got to see it again!)

When I've had friends in from overseas I've booked them into SkyCity as it really runs 24 hours instead of cutting back to a night service at 10-11pm. Seemd to be a good place to sort out the jetlag before heading off to Bay of Islands, Queenstown etc.

It's not the cheapest by any stretch but it has a good Airport shuttle service and at least EVERY taxi dirver in Auckland knows where it is !!!

I got in a Taxi at Mikano @ Mechanics Bay and the driver didn't know where the Crowne Plaza was banghead

Rather than single rooms, a 2 bed apartment might do.
Anyone know EasyStay Empire Apartments & Hotel, 21 Whittaker Place?

Hi there try www.wotif.com, I do all my bookings through there. They seem to always have one of lowest rates around.
I have sometimes got good rates at the Hilton on Princess wharf. I got an apartment there back in late August for four people and cost $420, works out pretty cheap each.
Crown Plaza is good as well as The Heritage, Sky City - never stayed there cant comment, but plenty of things to do.

Also if you just want a nice clean room with a view but nothing fancy, The Copthorne by the Viaduct is great value rooms from $109 each, puts you in the heart of entertainment.

Hope this helps smile

Sky City is excellent. We idled away a couple of hours in the casino, bought a couple of (cheap!) drinks, watched the floor show and watched people with less will-power lose lots of money gambling. The glass floor lift to the (near) top of the tower with its sections of glass floor and amazing views is a 'must-do'. You can watch brave people sliding down the 190m wire drop outside. Awesome.

Tried www.wotif.com and www.ezibed.com but not a lot available Saturday night for a 2 bed apartment/hotel. I want Friday - Sunday and most are 'gone' for the Saturday.
The Empire on Whittaker Place seems to be available but how far out is Whittaker Place?

If it's Whitaker Place with one "T" it's over the Symonds Street ridge in Grafton Gulley. Not a long way to walk . . . but I wouldn't want to walk up that hill in heels tongue out

Everywhere seems to filling up fast so got one of the 'secret deals' on www.wotif.com
Staying at the Westin Auckland, Lighter Quay.

Now that's sorted, any nearby car dealers in walking distance for 'window shopping'biggrin

No really a walk but only a very short taxi ride (or Link Bus)
