Renault R5 Turbo II
Discussion
Well... made the pilgramige to Taupo today to pick up the R5 Turbo. Neat little car. Neads a decent tune and a good tidy up and should be the dogs nuts. Went really well. Nathan was very un-selfish and let me drive it all the way back from Taupo to Otaki. Quite a blast through the desert road and a very entertaining drive. I'll try to encourage Nathan onto Pistonheads to let you know of his plans for the car.

That's cool.... and I don't mean regular cool, I mean like liquid-nitrogen-on-your-nipples cool! Will definitely have to bring him in here... plans for the car? so he'll be modifying it then?
Seconded! That is one hell of a motor. I've always wanted one.
Some awesome views where you are too.
Happy hooning!

It's a pretty cool car. I had an absolute blast in it on the way home. It is running a little rough and was pinking under full load so I had to be gentle but when he gets it all sorted it'll be a little go-kart. The rear tyres are 285's on an 11 inch rim!!! The front are 205's. 2nd time I'd driven a LHD car and for a long trip it was quite freaky but you soon got use to it.
Funny... I filled up at Mobil in Taupo. Put the petrol cap back on (right hand side of car) and then opened the door and got half in when I realized the steering wheel was on the other side dooh. The other funny was when I went to change down and could not find the gear leaver... caus it was on the right hand side! Habit! Lastly we pulled up at a Cafe south of Taupo for a bite to eat. Me in the R5 and Nathan in his Ranger and this guy pulls up in his van and come running over to us. I was rapidly thinking of any driving manoeuvres that might have upset him. He was like... man I haven't seen one of these this tidy on the road... wow... it's awesome... how long have you had it... do you mind if I take some pictures. Crack me up. We left him to it and went and had a flat white
