This is a new class of wings and slicks that is starting. The cars are all the same and are budget class with an on the track cost of around $30,000.
The cars are powered by VN Holden V6 3800 cc engines running twin EJ 20 turbo's. The class is to be heavily regulated, giving a very close racing class. The cars will look like the sample photo supplied and have great preformance.
Breif discription of the regulations.
Engine must remain standard, EJ 20 Turbo only, Subaru 5 speed gearbox only, Chassis all identical from one supplier only, body all indentical from one supplier only.
For further information please contact Chris on 0276 752 870.
Chassis costs $5000 + GST
Body costs $3000 + GST
Complete car ready for painting $30,000 or you can complete yourself.
Very cheap high performance car with looks and power to suit.
Series will run over both closed tracks and street tracks.
By 2009 it is hoped that there will be about 30 + cars running at all events.
Anybody heard anything about it? Sounds interesting if it goes ahead, 3.8 V6 twin-turbo single seaters should be quick...

Strange mix-o-bits confused

I bet it won't look like the 'sample' picture unless you turn the other way and squint so hard you have a seizure.

Doesn't appear to be MSNZ sanctioned as yet . . . .

Yeah sounded pretty cheap to me for a chassis which is supposed to take that sort of power. Besides which, a standard Subie 5-speed isn't exactly the strongest gearbox in the world, unless they're planning to use type-RA boxes with the option of group-N gearsets.

PS wouldn't it be cheaper to just turbo all the old Formula Holden cars they can find? hehe Even without FI they were quick.

The pictures of the chassis on TradeMe look pretty amateurish and a little on the heavy side.

Daft combination of engine and driveline too. Why would this be a more succesful option than the subaru powered single-seaters or the bike powered cars that have failed to establish themselves? Sticking a price on of $30k and talking about a grid of 30 cars when they haven't even built the chassis is a bit optimistic.

I agree.... Meat-filled pastry in the upper atmosphere.

From what I can gather they are trying to establish a market to see if there is the clientele out there to produce 30 cars and therefore justify a class.

I know Bruce hoped to see a Saker series over here but with MSNZ inundated with classes it was more likely that they would just be slotted into Super GT's or similar. If what i have heard is right they certainly aren't after more and more classes.

I have no opinion over the design of these cars as I'm no engineer but can't help but think that there are other options out there like the "fleet" of Suzuki racers for sale a while back and at low $20K they were great value & looked like a mini F1!

For me to commit to something of that scale I would rather see a finished or near finished car and more evidence of a definate series smile

Thank you for your first ever post on PH. If you cared at all to read the forum you would see that those who posted on this thread are VERY supportive of motorsport.

It just so happens that this particular "effort" does not seem to be well thought out and is poorly presented.

Do you know anything about motorsport generally or motorsport in NZ ?

It's just that many of us here have seen many similar series come and go.... forgive us for being a little jaded.
