That's not a bad looking car either. I guess what we'll miss is noise. I drove my Fraser back from its birthplace this afternoon with its new fat air filters and trumpets in place and revved it rather more than was strictly necessary.I like doing that
I know exactly what you mean and have been thinking the same lately with all the doom and gloom on the news of late about peak oil etc. Part of the joy of these cars is the intake noise, cam gear, exhaust burble...piston slap doh! (beats chest and makes grunting noises like Tim the toolman )Edited by Kiwi Carguy on Friday 20th July 06:56

Isn't the Tesla based on a modified Elise chassis?
Know what you mean about the sound though, capacitor whine isn't quite the same as turbo-whine.
They probably supply them with a computer generated soundtrack of your choice. V12 aircooled... no problem sir... sound mode 3 its the button on the left Know what you mean about the sound though, capacitor whine isn't quite the same as turbo-whine.

It's an Elise with an Electric engine, nothing more... it's an S2 chassis with a different subframe at the rear and a different crash structure at the frone (no radiator to mount in the Tesla).. differnt bodyshell and that's it Know what you mean about the sound though, capacitor whine isn't quite the same as turbo-whine.
Damm I hate electric car promoters, they couldn't lie straight in a coffin. Recharge in 10 minutes! Of course everyone has a 440V 100amp supply. Lies BS and waffle. How much energy do the batteries hold. Oh brilliant! about the same as 2 liters of petrol. So how do I get 350km range? By driving at 25kph, how magic. And on and on. I'm sorry the EV enthusiasts tell as big a porkies as steam car nuts and I know because I am one..Opps V.B.G.
Seriously I helped certify quite a few EV's back in the last round of enthusiasm in NZ and all the wide eyed beaming owners and promoters were sure their car was the dogs danglers and they were all hopeless. The one rule was when testing you had to have a cell phone because they all ran out of grunt on the high speed (laugh) brake test and you needed to be able to call to get a tow back home.
Cheers

...the other objection, of course, is that an electric car is only as green as your means of electricity generation-not much cop if it's coal-fired power stations, say, -or worse.
Yes, but the I.C.E is only about 1/3 efficient as well, so it'd be easier to re-use the waste heat in a power station (unless you have one of those Mercs with the heat capturing tech)... Basically, sooner or later we're all going to be back on push bikes or horses...
