I'm hosting a BBQ this Sunday avo for a bunch of southern TVR club guys on their way back from Taupo before they jump on the ferry. My humble grill won't cater for many, but if any local PHers with TVR inclinations fancy dropping in for a beer and a sausage to check out some of Trevor's finest and see my dismembered Cerbera up close, drop me a mail through my profile.

Kiwi Carguy - I think there's one or two coming down from Paraparaumu already so a lift may be possible, and would be good to meet and discuss the building of plastic cars with big engines

Don, are you actually coming to the TVR festivities in Taupo? Would be good to put a face to the name if you are

hehe I second that (though I have seen a couple of TVRs before - an Orange Griffith in Timaru last year and another Griffith in Chch too many years ago to remember the colour)

Will provide beer and an introduction to some entertaining roads

I still feel like such an idiot the first time I got in a midnight-blue Griffith @ Fast Forward and couldn't work out how to get out hehe

I'll second that - thanks Don for organising this, we'll have to see if we can get some more cars on the road next time (including yours!).

Nice to meet up with the SOuth Island guys - hope you all had a safe, copper free run home.

Cheers

That would have been Leighton in his Green 3000S (Plate TREVRR) and Gerald in his Red S1 (Plate TVR S1). Had a great weekend in Taupo with the TVR lads and ladesses, always such a nice bunch of people!

We got 8 TVRs including 3 from the mainland.

4xGriff 500s, 2x3000S, 1xS1 and 1xS3. Were meant to have a Chim 4.0L but he had alternator troubles en-route (more a case of trying to do a long run in a car that'd been sat in a garage for a year than notorious unreliability)

Interestingly, all the TVRs there ran like clockwork all weekend, some of them racking up some SERIOUS mileage.

Highlights of the weekend were:

- Almost getting run over by Leighton and Kylie on the treasure hunt while manning checkpoint 3 on the treasure hunt!
- Finding some GREAT new driving roads on the way down and back.
- The relentless thunder of 8 TVRs in convoy.
- Met some great new friends and were reunited with some old ones.
- The AWESOME chances I was given to drive a couple of the Griff 500s, thanks a million Steve and Jim.... I am corrupted for life!

Pics will follow in a week or so.

Nasty thing to do to an Elise owner, is that

Great to meet the southern contingent on the way through - hope you guys are recovered from the late night / early morning run home. Also the local lads who came along, with particular thanks to Alan for taking Megan out to the South Coast in the wedge and showing her what TVRs are all about. The nagging to crack on and get the Cerb finished has already started - result!

Oh no, it's not going to tempt me from the Elise fold, far from it, it's made me realise that the Griff is not the car for me.... but to experience it is a wonderful, wonderful thing

Brutal doesn't even begin to describe it, those things are ALIVE. I've experienced many Griffs from the passenger's seat, but driving one really brings home what a bloody dangerous car they are.... they buck, they writhe, they pull at you this way and that, but despite this they charm you and reward you, while going VERY fast

Yep, a Griffith is certainly a mans car.

I would have thought it would make any Elise driver crave having a proper engine installed in their chariot. Alfa V6 would be nice.

Don - thanks for hosting the BBQ was great to put faces to the names and meet up with with everyone. Glad to hear Megan is almost downstairs lending a hand! It will be a ripper when its on the road.

George - pleased I made your highlights. Really thought I was going to get you (not that that was my intention) just wanting to beat Jon home.

kiwi carguy - didn't think I was going that fast. My car is grey (Rover Stone). Where did you spot us?

PS - very late night indeed pulled into Kaikoura at 2am as Kylie keen to stop. One the road again at 6.20am. All mainlanders home safe and sound with no extra demerit points. Great weekend. Looking like we will use Nelson next year. Be good to see some more faces then.
