FYI From a reliable source by email...

Dear XXXXXXXXXX:

Government proposals will stop 75% of all used imports, petrol and diesel!

How will this affect your business?

Come and find out at:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Government has announced a series of initiatives designed to deal with environmental concerns, including fuel consumption and exhaust emission standards.

In particular, the proposed exhaust emission standards would severely limit the vehicles that may be imported.

Up to 75% of vehicles currently being imported may not comply!

All diesels older than 2004 will be banned!

MoT officials will give an overview and discuss the Government''s proposals.

This meeting is open to all IMVDA members AND ANY BUSINESSES with interests in used imports.

Make sure you''re there ~ bring anyone who may be affected.

Refreshments provided.

Plenty of parking.

Once it's happened, it won't matter whether you believe it or not. teacher

Thanks mate, Yeah that's the plan, hoping to bring it out there in the next year or so and while I'm there drop it off at RIPS in Rotorua for another RB30 engine and 700bhp or so Was hoping to stay for a while and maybe register the car over there but I guess that looks like it might not be possible now.

Mate I'm sure they'll take an eternity to get it through. It'll be at least 18 months if it's passed surely?

Make a submission that 'bringing one in with you that you've owned for 12+ months' should be treated differently to a 'fresh spec import' thumbup

Hopefully longer hehe
I'm planning to up sticks to NZ in about 18 months, how long for I've no idea, but there's a lot I'd like to see and do so it won't be short term. Fingers crossed I can get the car out there, if not I'll just have to downscale the plans or something.

The details the IMVDA have mentioned might be a bit misleading, but it's good to get the issue some publicity.

The government has made an announcement that they want to improve the emissions of vehicles entering the fleet. To do this they want vehicles to meet certain standards - the first would be to limit cars to Japan 2000 emissions standards or better - approximately restricting cars that come from Japan to newer than year 2000. This could take effect in 2008, then after that the bar is raised to tougher emissions regulations so by 2012 the approximate age limit for imports would be about 4 years.

This is similar to what happened when the frontal impact Rule came in, it effectively stopped pre-1996 cars entering. I think the used car industry moaned back then that the world would end for them, but it didn't, they just adapted, as did their customers.

I was meaning that the TVR franchise wasn't worth anything after the change in regs and was unloaded by Fast Forward (as they were then) to Monaco Prestige. Monaco gave up on the franchise a long time ago according to the owner.

They could start up again - TVR made so few cars last year (less than 200) that I reckon 2006 year TVRs would be eligible in NZ now.

About $100k would get a T350 or Tuscan 2, $120k for a Sagaris. Sell the house, buy a caravan, put wedding plans on hold, I wonder...

Yeah, we've talked about this before but who are you going to ask for the certification? There's no factory left and nobody here who'd be interested!

The last of the 'British' cars are going to be well sought after in coming years I bet.

The only information you would need verified is that production volume of less than 200 - but that could be a bit tricky now that there's nobody in Blackpool to ask. If that could be confirmed then it just needs to be certified as a low volume vehicle by LVVTA, like a Westfield or Ariel is.

I wonder if you could get that confirmation from the DVLA in the UK and whether that would be acceptable to the LTSA/LVVTA? Would be worth asking if someone was keen/planning on bringing one out. I'd love to see a Sagaris on the road in NZ! If only I wasn't completely skint!

I recently read that Noble were now manufacturing in volumes over 200 per year - which would suggest you can no longer bring in Nobles under the LVV scheme. Which would really annoy me if I'd built a business around it...
