Well, I'm no longer a Taupo- virgin; had my first experience of the tight and twisty circuit on Saturday. Quite a learning curve(well, a series of learning curves actually, har har) -spent much of time 4-wheel drifting wide and being overtaken by better drivers on better tyres. There were quite a few spins and I managed to lock up and disappear into the scenery but I loved the track -so much more suited to a low-top-speed but good accelarating, good cornering (ahem) car like the Fraser. The hot shots were running 1.20s or less. I didn't get timed
They've booked for next year too. Cost is apparently currently in the early 4k region to hire for a day and regulations are tight-the few tin tops there were not allowed passengers unless they had full cages and 4 point harnesses in passenger seats.
Apparently there's an event coming up run by the Capri car club in conjunction with the Sports Car Club that will be using the full circuit.
Anyone else at Puke on the first of April?

Presume that was the new half driving

I've done both Track 1 (A1GP) and Track 4 (full track including old hairpin by the old pit entry) in the last month. Taupo is fantastic and must be the safest track in the country. Track 4 is great but the extra length of the back straight hurts compared to the monster horsepower machines.

alright! I made it up about the refreshments. it's just that you were having a nice casual chat whereas when i drove it i spent most of the time swearing at myself, my tyres and various obscure deities (holy f**k, holy Cr*p and of course, holy sh*t)

I'll come clean too - not me driving
I wanted some benchmark data as I was doing a training day with Richard Lester (Lester Motorsport) , so he did a session with my better half as pax.

He was 2 sec faster, so with more work in the arvo we managed to take 1.3 out of that margin - great instructor and driver - can't recommend him enough
