A few photos from Southern Festival of Speed (Timaru)
Discussion
Heres a few teaser shots from the weekend - more to come (~150 total) once I'm back at my flat with decent bandwidth instead of using up my parents meagre limit.

and may as well stick a couple in here as well, 1024x768 so may get a bit munched by PH resizing though.(Just click on them to see full size)
And finally, what classic racing is all about...

Superb!
I love the diverse fields you get in this form of racing. There are a lot of machines there on the wish-list for my dream garage.
Isn't it a CS/CSL rather than a 6-series or am I missing a car?

dammit, it seems I go out of my way to make it impossible for me to get to these events!
Saw lots of these cars on trailers heading home, while I was coming back from Christchurch on sunday night.

So you were a week late for the Ruapuna round as well
Still Teretonga (Invercargill) this weekend and the Dunedin street race the 25th (sunday after) though...

I've been thinking of getting my '02 rebuilt with a bit of motorsport in mind. That'll be a long way down the line though - need to sell the TVR and get on with the P5 first!
There were several 02s running 1.5litre turbo units which were basically the same as the BMW F1 engines of the 80s which were good for 1000-1500bhp in qualifying trim! They had space-frames slapped on to the central part of the shell so were very stiff and handled superbly. I know there's at least one of these original cars running in Aussie with a de-tuned 600bhp set-up!!!!!

I think if I get into circuit racing, it'll be classic stuff like this!
My thoughts exactly. Many of the cars there also run in events like the Targa NZ which would be much fun

Some nice pics Ben, noticed a few cars I raced against at Laurence Speed Event back in 05. Loved the pic of the RS1600 being worked on.........classic N.Z stuff...jacked up without axle stands and on grass..!
The rest of the photos are now up good the bad and the ugly (well ok I got rid of most of the really bad ones)
Far too many to hotlink them all in here so I'll just give the link instead:

Nice pics Ben, Love that Gulf Oils GT40! and the mean looking Black Single seater, wany idea what it is?Looks like a Formula 5000 .
:yep: There was a field of 10-12 Formula 5000s there, very nice sounding (and LOUD!) Its a replica GT40 rather than a genuine one, but very tasty indeed
Was the Dunedin Street Race today, so plenty of photos to come from that as well once I upload them.
Did you get any photos of the couple of crashed cars?
Was talking to the Ferrari Club Chairman for the South Island yesterday at the Dunedin race (because i invited the Ferrari Club, Porsches and the Lambo replica to put on displays this year) and he was telling me that there were a couple of big crashes at Timaru (he was racing there), one involving a Mustang which is now a write off? Which was also for sale. :s
Also a couple of big crashes at the Dunedin race, an M6 with frontal damage and a Toyota which rolled on the last corner. Got pics of both cars, but no before pics of the Toyota.

couple of big hits -
The mustang was making a move round the outside of a GT Falcon off the end of the back straight shortly after this, the Falcon locked up the rears which stepped the tail out and bumped the Mustang onto the grass at big speed, no chance of recovering it before he went into the tyres. This is what it looked like when I saw it in pits aftewards:
There was also a nice Cobra which got put into the pit wall pretty heavily at the kink in the front straight.
I saw the Corolla crash in the first practice session yesterday, got a bit loose through the chicane, tagged the tyre wall with the rear and rolled a couple times along the start/finish straight. Got a couple of photos just after but unfortunately didnt have camera ready when he did it. I didn't see the BMW crash but the front end and roof looked pretty trashed afterwards, like he'd gone nose-first under a tyre wall or something.
Think I saw your car in the Southern Skylines area, it looks pretty straight and tidy eh
ps what was the Ferrari Club chairman racing? might have some photos of his car.

Ben thanks very much for taking the time to post the pics
Especially the one of the Gulf GT40 as I have been deliberating on what to do about wheels, what style, what color etc and this pic shows me at least one option. So cheers
