....the new site I have been working on is almost ready. Content is going up daily now, the newsfeeds area is complete, the forum is up and running and it will be launched with a half page ad in the A1GP programme. A few on here have received email harrassment to join and have, which is great (Thank You)

It's NZ focussed and free and you can put stuff on there if you fancy a bit of writing or taking pics of your pride and joy.

www.petrolheads.co.nz

Have a look if you have a moment - all feedback, negative as well as positive, is welcome.

Thanks folks.

Richard

PS - If I get banned for posting this, it's been nice chatting with you all (Seriously!!)

PPS - I know about the dragsters and the bogans :-)

'sbeen nice knowing ya

But seriously, I don't think Ted will have too much of a problem, it's just a more open version of or NZ forum on here really, with more local base.

It's not like any of us are going to leave PISTONHeads alone anyway..... got to get my daily PH fix

I registered and had a peep around and it's looks like your off to a good start.

I must admit... I thought there would be more activity here on NZPH. In saying that check out our posts compared to the other countries under "International PHers". Were miles ahead.

It would be great to get most people who are on here (NZ) signed up. My gut feeling is that there are a lot of people out there who would get something from the site and enjoy contributing to it - whether that's via the forums or via contributing articles or pictures. It's not designed to really be a competitor to PH, more like a complimentary thing (in my head anyway). PH is the best forum, but why not have something more local as well? I get loads of different car mags and read two or three forums. I like the diversity. There doesn't seem to be one like the one I want PetrolHeads to be, so why not build it? That's my rationale anyway.

Got to think of a decent tag line for it too. Something that reflects the fact that people can become involved and prvide content. I guess that is really the key and the 'difference' from a straightforward news or forum site.

The reason that PH NZ forums dont tend to get much usage is that we're a very small fish in a big PH pond... Remember, the NZPH forum only cropped up about 3 years ago.

Many people seem to be under the impression that Pistonheads membership requires a fee/

I think the key to PetrolHeads being a success is being locally-based and keeping up with the times news-wise.

Agreed but more so referring to the number of Kiwi's in the NZ section in relation to the amount of motoring enthusiast young and old we have here in NZ. In relation to the whole board we are representing quite well if you take a quick look at total posts under Internatinal PHer's

Sounds like a good thing, I'll sign up soon and would be happy to contribute photos, videos etc that I've taken at various motorsport events and the like down south

Well done for starting up this venture. Ted started PH as a bit of a hobby for us TVR folk and look where he has got to. Congratulations to Ted for making such a great website that Haymarket had to buy into it.

PH was originally called Petrolheads until some defunct magazine threatened legal action - have you checked with him if your name is safe?

Is it possible to set up a search engine that will cover all the publicly viewable NZ car forums?

I'd say you'll be in for a lawyer's letter on behalf of these guys: www.nzpetrolhead.co.nz/ for infringing their trademark. It's so close to their name as to cause confusion as to who the real owner is, and therefore they might claim that you're 'passing off' as their client.

Hi Graham
I've been around, but had to pretty much start from scratch again early last year after a rather messy marriage 'issue' - the issue being that my wife felt 'trapped' so started seeing another guy who, in turn, ended up 'trapped' (on holiday courtesy of the Government and Her Majesty). clap
It's one of those things you look back on and think "actually, that was a lucky escape"

Now all I have to do is get myself a decent car

If I can, I'll come down to the trackday on Monday, probably around midday as I have a meeting in town at 10:30. I won't be driving my current ride though (a rather sad 626 station wagon...)

Jeez, New Zealand is small - you can't put a foot wrong here.
I do remember you, but hadn't placed you before. She's having a baby in a few months (lucky escape number 2 for me because I'm definitely not a breeder!!)

Feel free to email me if you want to trade war stories - darren at cottingham dot co dot nz

Funny you should say that: I'm seriously considering an Exige. I have to get back to something around the 4-sec/100kph mark - I've missed the STI quite a lot, but don't want to buy something that's too common in NZ.

You should definitely have a look at Dean's Londa then. Was fortunate enough to get a couple of hot laps with Dean and it's a rocket.
No, I'm not on commission
