Hi Guys.
CLNZ is running a trackday in late Feb at Taupo, although not sure which track this is at... anyone know?
However, the NZHonda club is running a trackday at the FULL (A1GP) taupo track on Monday 5 March. I'm going to this one and there will be spots for anyone else who wants to come It's a pricey trackday at $175 for non-NZHondas members, but bear in mind that this is the full track and it's expensive to get a run here so this represents pretty good value.
Details are here:

This could be the chance that a few of you have been looking for to run the full track in anger.
In case you're wondering, I've been to a couple of NZHondas days in the past and they're very well-run. Given that they're running "seeded" groups, you can be sure that you'll be running with people of similar experience and some of the more serious/experienced hond guys are VERY good drivers in VERY quick cars.
If you'd like to sign up but don't have a NZHondas forum login, post in here, e-mail me and I'll act as a go-between to get you on the list. This promises to be a popular day and the spots will fill up FAST. If you don't book a spot in the next week or two I'm guessing you'll be on the "waiting list" and while a few people inevitably pull out of these things at the last minute, it's best to secure a spot early. Hope to see a few of you there

Awesome... hopefully we can get some diversity there, it's always good. Hoping to rope a TVR or two in Roger/Graham? Would be a great opportunity to try your respective rocket-powered rollerskates out!
Kylie? Are you ale to answer whether the CLNZ fun day is the old or new short track or full track?

Of the 4 groups I was thinking about the Beginners (avoiding the Absolute Novice group)to give me a chance to try a few things with the setting-up of the car and learn the track without getting in the way of the quickies in the Experienced or Medium groups.
Does that seem like sense or would it just get me punted into the weeds by someone who can't control their own car?

Hmm... you could always try the MEDIUM group.
In the end, it's not necessarily about speed, although manyof the experienced drivers drive quicker cars, some of them are just more experienced.
Having said that, of the people in the Beginners group, 2 of the 3 in there currently I know and both of them I'd be happy running doorhandle to doorhandle with, both of them with cars that could embarrass most people in here.
In the end, it's down to you... I put it on experience rather than pace... I reckon that if you've done (in the past couple of years) over 10 trackdays you're in experienced.... over 4 you're in medium, more than one, you're in beginner and none, you're in novice.
These groups will probably move about on the day, and from my experience, even the newbies will be respectful, although due to the size of your car (and being LOW) you might be harder to spot in the mirrors for someone who's not aware.
In the end, if you do end up in the "experienced" group, it's no biggie, you won't be slowing anyone down because you're a considerate, experienced track user yourself... you'll let anyone quicker past and you'll happily pass the slower people.... lord knows you've the pace and grip and talent to do it.... now you just need he seat-hours.
I think so long as you stay outta novice you'll be fine with the other track users.
Bear in mind, in ANY group you can always be caught in someone else's accident (have you seen how that "Esprit" fellow drives? ) but part of good trackday craft is noticing how hard the man ahead of you is pushing and having the sense to hold back just a little if you feel he's pushing the envelope a little too hard, it's a plenty big track and you'll always be able to drop back a couple dozen carlengths before charging on again if you'd prefer to be running in isolation.

Cool. I really need to get a decent read on these tyres (Avon ACB10's). They seem to be schizophrenic or have PMS or something.
Also need to do quite a bit of prep, adjust the clutch, replace the brake fluid, replace the drive chain, reset the brake balance controller, recalibrate the STACK dash, fix the mirrors, etc before the Puke trackday

. . . and re-fit the Ballast seat in case anyone is brave enough for a ride
That reminds me. I need to get some earplugs to suppress the screams.
could be a new experience for me, I'm more used to causing amusing passenger reactions than being them.
ps found my dad's old motorbike helmet in the garage which I could bring to Puke if I need to for pax rides, its gotta be 30+ years old and looks a bit hammered though so it may be better if I could borrow an old one off someone for the day if thats possible?

Yep, got my spare helmet for you. Can't guarantee the fit though
Not sure about the clothing rules for passengers. Will check the forms I filled out at work tomorrow but I'm guessing full length trousers, long sleeves and no nylon.
Now to work out how to mount my new mini-cam I is un ingineeeeeer
