I'll 2nd that ouch.

Do/Did you have a dry sump?

Those pics look rather like another Ultima owner who was at a track day with me recently took of his engine, to cut the story short...
I have a dry sump, he didn't, I drove home, he didn't...

Still not nice, I'm not that familiar with porkers, but has it actually pierced the block ???

No - no dry sump. The rebuilt motor is definitely getting the racing baffle and pick-up kit welded in. An accusump is always an option except you don't really know if they work - only when they don't

Nothing wrong with the strength of the rod bolts though. Big hole about the size of your fist in the sump casting and you can see internal damage to the bottom of the cylinder bore - so its history.

We've been going over the oil pressure data - pressure was reasonable with a small drop at the esses and the hairpin. Now that we know it was a bearing failure, I'll need to do a bit more diligent analysis - and I think I'll add an oil temp channel.

You can see how pressure drops with temperature from 5 to 3.5bar througout the session - bottom chart is 944S2 and shows similiar behavior

The other Ultima owner had one of those, still didn't help him, I guess it must have fully discharged as there were a lot of twists and a long sustained corner in the track layout - dratted caterham lovers.

As for oil temps thinning out the oil too much, that's definately a possibility given that the pressure seems sufficient.

I have a C&R Racing water/oil heat exchanger plumbed into my system, it really helps keep the oil temps in line with the water temps & with the engine warm up times.

Ouch, sorry. I dont know all that much about oily bits but I do know they should be all inside and not scattered all over the road...

I can imagine its a bit cooler with the new ventilation tho. Is that technicaly a 993 now?

Hope its sorted with minimal expense/haslte, a whole new engine?

Yeah - I will be paying close attention to the oil cooling. The PO removed the inner guards and some of the ducting around the front of the car so it may have screwed up the air flow. The cooler core is a bit peaned from gravel and the like so its perfromance is probable sub-par. I'm thinking a larger cooler with some effective ducting is probably called for.

Was this Anges fault if it will make you feel beter hehe?......Its ok to blame the wife I am used to it. Husband was about to blame me last night for not flicking off the power source quickly when his largest drill bit snagged drilling down into the chassis and nearly made him do ring a ring a rosies rotate Got there in time though to save his leg being twisted off

Nope - can't blame Ang for this one. She did suggest however that I did her a favour in that she now has my Christmas, Birthday and Wedding Anniversary present sorted for the next 5 years...................

Here's what I fitted for oil cooling, 13 plate with 1 & 1/2 inch water connections and -12 oil line connections, it plumbs straight into the radiator flow, it's great though only if you have a radiator to start with!

Bit pricey though...
