Great news! Until the greenies and NIMBYs kicked it into touch I used to love the Wellington street race. The sight (and sound!) of the 635 beemers, Tom Walkinshaw Rovers, big Volvos etc hooning aroud the wharves, up Jervois Quay and through the chicane was something else...
And for me, it's that intermarque rivalry that's missing from Bathurst these days. Ford vs Holden... Zzzzzzzzz.

Yeah Good news for Hamilton and for motorsport in NZ.
Also shows that it's not the RMA that's the problem, its the people of Auckland that are the problem.

Of course you realize that ANYONE who made a submission can appeal to the Environment Court for a de novo hearing.
The RMA sucks like a bucket full of starving leeches.
That notwithstanding . . . Well done and good luck to the Tron

A bit off topic, but is there any more word on what's happening to Whenuapai airbase? It'd be the ideal venue for a trackday company and a V8 Race...
Ooooooohh. I must do a search back here a year or two. I seem to recall a bet of sorts . . . maybe it was a one-way bet
Waitakere City is still leading the charge with Infratil and have roped in Rodney District and North Shore City with a no-equity / shared-governance deal.
There's a huge bun fight at the moment in some of the regional committees and IMHO not all the conflicts of interest, vested interests, and pre-determinations are being properly disclosed or acknowlodged.
I helped put together the cost side of one of the economic models being used for the alternative uses and the viability of most options really stand or fall on how you value the land (in terms of it's designation) and the disbenefits within the buffer-zones.
The surface itself needs a lot of work. A few years back a BMW factory driver put a brand-new customers car on it's lid by clipping a misaligned joint in the hex-blocks.
Having said that . . . I'd be there practicing quite a bit if it was open for trackdays

OK... look forward to that $100.00 mate Nothing concrete but a dam good start.
Maybe the cars will be air-freighted into Whenuapai Airport and there will be a 'race' to the transporters to get onto the ring-motorway before 5:15am when the congestion pricing tolls click up to $27.50 for the trip down the North-Western to Manukau and then south to Hamilton.

Here's $100 (for the first taker only ) on a bet that there will not be an Ozzie V8 race at Whenuapai within the next 5 years.
If you think the public in Wellington know how to things-up using the RMA you haven't seen anything until you've seen those who live near Whenuapai . . .
