Hi all,
There's a private day being organised at Pukekohe on 22nd January (Monday). This is the monday after the A1GP weekend. I know it's a monday so it'll mean a day off work if you want to attend, but January's usually a good time to do this sort of thing. I'm told there are a few spots lest... post in here if you might be interested and I can pass your contact details along.
Cost for the day will be ~$100 or so. Standard regs as for any private trackday as far as I'm aware.
Chance to get out and enjoy Pukekohe without the annoying drifters making a mess of things!

I've just received a confirmation e-mail abotu the aforementioned trackday. I've pasted the info below FYI.
I've already got 4 spots allocated to me, for myself and friends (you lot)... but there are more available at present if more of you want to come out for a play. I've blanked out account details of the bloke organising it and his e-mail address, but if you think you'll be a definite starter, I can forward the account details and his contact directly so that you can book/pay for your place... I'll probably be confirming my place next week. Just post up in here and I'll forward the info

Morning Session: To enable drivers to get a feeling for the track and their cars performance.
10.00am Drivers briefing, cars and helmets will be inspected.
10.15am First Group will proceed out for the first 15 minute session.
12.30pm Final group will come into pits for lunch
Lunch: A chance to refuel your stomach and your car.
Afternoon Session: A chance to empty your car, hopefully not your stomach!
1.00 – 4.30pm cars can feel free to line up at the entry to the track, and they will be told when to enter. (This is subject to conditions, number of cars left and driver preference. We will just wait and see but this has worked well in the past.)
4.30pm Final group off the track.
Rules:
There will be no Drifting
Helmet must be worn at all times whilst in a car on the track.
There will be no passing on corners, no exceptions. The majority of drivers will be using their daily driven road cars, KEEP THIS IN MIND. (drivers caught doing this or any other dangerous manoeuvres will be asked to leave immediately)
Basically you break it you buy it! (this is in respect to the track itself i.e. Guardrail, sign writing etc)
No more then 10 cars on the track at one time.
Obviously the track operates in a clockwise direction, so no going the wrong way!!! ( The track Manager can tell you some nasty stories of this happening)
If you happen to go “off roading” and get stuck stay in your car, everyone else that goes past will be able to laugh at you! Then they will come around past the start finish line and toot their horn to notify the track official who will black flag the session and everyone will come in to the pits while he pulls them out.

Well it seems I'm gonna be in your half of the country that weekend, have a mates wedding in Taupo on the 20th (so might even make it to the A1GP on 21st as well), if I was to make it up to Puke on the monday are spectators/ tag-alongs allowed? I'm more likely to fly than take my car up for the weekend so I guess would be catching a bus ( ) to Puke, or maybe hiring a car or something.
Would be good to put some faces to names, see some 'proper' cars, etc if it works out.

Ben, you'd be most welcome... this may end up being somewhat of a PistonHeads meet since Izza (who is usually based in Timaru) will be up as well. I won't have a spare passenger seat to the track as I'll have Izza with me, but if you're there on the day and they allow passengers, I'll gladly take you out for a blat

Forget the idea of a bus. We looked into that for V15Ben (sp?) last Christmas and it was next to impossible. Phil & I ended up taking him down in the Westie's tow-car.
Any idea where you would be staying in Auckland?
Thanks for the welcome guys, haven't done anything about sorting accomodation yet, only started thinking about it earlier this week when I got a text from mate asking if I wanted to be a groomsman for his wedding, I have mates in Pukekohe and elsewhere in Auckland (not sure where in Auckland atm though) who I haven't asked yet but wouldn't mind me crashing on their couch/floor/etc(common method of student accomodation while travelling) so thats probably what I'll do for the Sunday night, and monday as well if I fly back down tuesday.
I'm guessing theres a complete lack of hotels available in Taupo for the weekend, but have a few options to check out there, mates I may be able to stay with etc. If all else fails I can find somewhere to put a tent up

Auckland to taupo is 3.5 hours, maybe a bit longer around A1GP weekend. I think Rotorua to Auckland is similar. Taupo to Rotorua is about 40 mins? Auckland to Pukekohe is about 40-45 minutes. Direct to Pukekohe from either Taupo or Rotorua, subtract maybe 25-35 minutes from the time to Auckland.

I suppose rental cars have some small print saying I can't take one on track? mind you I don't have a helmet and I've never driven on track before so that probably wouldn't be a great idea anyway doing it in an unfamiliar car that isn't mine, maybe best stick to blagging pax laps.

Owen Evans might have done Taupo to Rotorua in 40 mins but most people would take 55ish.
Both S.H.5 and the Broadlands route will be full of s and speedcameras that weekend.
Have you got a full-face helmet ?
