Noticed this on trademe:

www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Specialist-cars/Competition-cars/auction-70668237.htm

The RWD XR6T-powered Ford Focus that Steve Millen drove in the Targa last year - certified, road legal, 500+ rwhp / 770 Nm torque rotate

I'd obviously get the stickers taken off it (if they're still on, some photos have them and some don't) to avoid looking a complete knob, but what a weapon! silly

only catch is the $55k price tag, and probably insuring it...

driving So who wants to give me $50k? I can stump up the other 5...

The reaosn they're selling it is that they keep blowing it up and they've never once got it running right.... complete pig of a thing from what I understand... needs much more cash to develop into a really potent racecar.

I like anything fun

It does say 'now well sorted' in the ad, duly taken with grain of salt though. I know another car built by the same people previously, an early 90's Toyota Levin given similiar treatment, converted to RWD with a 2JZ-GTE (3.0 Supra V6) mounted so far back only the front of it was in the engine bay, with one huge turbo on it. That one was an absolute weapon anyway, used to run against the Tranzams/Oscars in the SI race events and did very well on the tighter tracks and in the wet but lost out a little to the 700+ hp Tranzams on some of the straight bits.

Given how good that one was it would be something of a surprise if they can't get the Focus working properly.

Yeah I know of the ppl that bought it, know them through a friend..... in the end, there's no reason it can't be done, they just went WAY over budget, the thing kept lunching motors and the fixes aren't easy or cheap, and they're anting to invest in other projects.... of course you could tune it down for a streeter

hehe Thats what I'd probably be doing with it if I got it Would make a fairly mental street/trackday/hillclimb car yes

Of course being $50k short makes it a pretty academic discussion really. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket...

This car is an absolute beast and sounds awesome too. It was racing around Levels Raceway at the clubmans meet on July 10 this year and it was easily the fastest car there.

There's another clubmans meet at Levels this Saturday (Sept 30) and it may or may not be back. Free spectator entry to all those keen to have a look...

Hmm, tempted to go up for the weekend, but I'll have to see how my 2 big assignments due next week are going by that stage. Dammit, why does all the good stuff happen when I'm so busy, Silver Fern Rally is 7-14 October which I'd love to see (Stig Blomqvist and Jimmy McRae driving among others) but will be struggling for time then as well.

If anyone tells you uni is easy, they never did third year surveying! its 7 days a week at the moment.

teacher Depends on whether you just want to pass or get decent marks.

Is surveying 4 years these days or still 3?

I'm sure all the hard work will be worth it when you move to Queenstown, cash in on the next boom, and spend your weekends on the gravel and snow. thumbup

Its a 4 year degree, always has been as far as i know - final year has a reputation for being much more relaxed than third though, so I'm looking forward to that. It does seem somewhat ironic though that when I go and work during my holidays, it still feels like a holiday.

Hmmm Qtown could be fun, not a cheap place to live though. Anwhere in the S.I. is close to gravel and snow really. Theres always the overseas option for when I graduate as well - Bsurv grads in NZ generally start on $40-45k, and its easily double that in Aussie at the moment - huge shortage of surveyors and engineers, in fact I could probably fail the degree and still get close to that money over there. But I don't think I'd like aussie that much, theres a distinct lack of mountains. Plenty of time to decide yet anyways, maybe I'll move to Germany and hang out at the 'Ring.

Mmmm I can see why all you guys go overseas to get real money. Its so wrong getting 40-45K reward for 4yrs hard slog. You would honestly struggle to by a decent house in Queenstown/Auckland to live off that.
Stay here in NZ mate and beg for those annual pay rises We need more skilled workers like you here.

Back in 1989 when I finished Uni (I feel so old) started on $34k which was 22% of the value of my house. There's no way that graduate pay has kept relativity with house prices.

Having said that we'll pay $55k at the moment for a good graduate IF they are articulate and can demonstrate a reliable work history (just McDonalds or a supermarket etc).
