Posted this is the Australian forum but it's a bit quiet in there

had a look at the other thread, do you have a specific preference as to RWD/AWD/FWD?
Audi (V6) RS4 Avants are coming down in price now that the new V8 one is out (saw a 2001 RS4 on trademe in NZ for $60k or thereabouts), theyre a fully fledged rocketship and also feel quite special (according to those who own them), being AWD it may not be as entertaining as some slower RWD competitors, but I imagine thats what you have the RX-7 for?
if you get bored of 380bhp I believe they're easily chipped etc to a bit more...
Personally I probably wouldn't sink that much cash into something that depreciates as quick as a car, I'd get something along the lines of a second hand STi/Evo/Legacy GT as a practical rocket, and invest the rest.
perhaps you could buy something depreciation-proof like a Porsche 964 RS ? though you already have a track weapon, so something like an RS might not be what you're after for this car.

Sorry, but I really can't find a way to suggest something other than my advice on your OZ thread - Blue or Red . . . and cheap.

Hi Tim, I was in the similar situation as you (not married though no kids) about 8yrs ago where my partner was able to buy me out as he headed overseas. It was real hard as I wanted to buy an Esprit or something else real special - the choices!! I had to come to my senses though and think about my future and goals as to where I wanted to be in 10yrs time. I traded my MK1 MR2 for a $12K Subaru 4x4 and used the rest to put down on another house straight away before I spent it. Its the best move I ever did. Still got a house and now had an Esprit for last 4yrs.
Can you not swing another Company Car? If you say your business is growing well this is the only way to go. That way you could get your business to buy it.
If I were you with kids I would be looking at investing it or keeping some aside for kids education etc while you can and let the business pay for the toys
My husband is in the process of building a 32 Roadster and got the Co to pay for it. Hes got 8 daily runner cars for the business too
So theres hope for ya!

Ben; definately not FWD, already have one of those (Vito) and previously a Cordia Turbo and others. Prolly shows my age but prefer RWD. Would consider AWD (Evo, WRX or Liberty, Mazda6MPS, Audi etc)
The Audis you mention are a bit pricey, I think $40k will be my limit, leaves $60-70k to invest sensibly.
Still hoping that if I buy well, I might keep it for a couple of years, doing minimal miles, (Van for work, RX7 for blasts & trackdays, 4 seater for going somewhere special & taking the kids out) it shouldn't cost me TOO much...
Kylie, much as I would LOVE an Esprit, (my brother had an S4S), apart from needing 4 seats I think I'm being a bit sensible with my money... if I invest 60k and sell the car in 2 years without losing much...
Couldn't get a mortgage or business loan ATM even if I wanted one, need to spend a couple of years building some 'auditable' accounts for the business...
RX8 is looking more & more likely as the 'family car'
