Assuming our local PHers read something other than Haynes.... what are people's favourite petrol-head reads? Here's my top 4...
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance- Robert M Pirsig
If you own a spanner you know this one already.
Burt Munro Indian Legend of Speed (The Worlds Fastest Indian) - George Begg
The movie was a great story and Hopkins brilliant, but some of the facts got lost along the way. The book is fascinating in the extra detail.
A Boot Full of Right Arms
The London - Sahara - Munich rally in a modified Leyland P76. Why....?
Jupiters Travels - Ted Simon
A man and a Triumph ride around the world

My Girlfriend is reading Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance at the moment... she's making tough going of it as she's not a technical person and is having trouble drawing the parallels. I've not read it yet, but once she's done it will go on my list.
Some of my faves:
"At the wheel" By James Clark - The great Jim Clark's autobiography.... halfway through it and loving it.
"Unless I'm Very Much Mistaken" By Murray Walker - Very enjoyable insight into motor racing over the past 40 years from someone who's been involved in more aspects of it than anyone.
"Colin Chapman - Lotus Engineering: Theories, Designs & Applications" By Hugh Haskell .... it's on my shelf and it's in the queue, I can't WAIT to read it
"Lotus Elite: Racing Car for the Road" By D. Ortenburger .... fantastic book on a fantastic car

Some Unusual Engines by LJK Setright. Great read on the history of engine developement and the side alleys that have been explored to power trucks and cars.
Ralph Watson Special Engineer. Inspiring story of the Lycoming and BSA Specials and having spent some time with Ralph I count myself lucky. One of the good guys.
Thrust by Richard Noble. Covers the Noble's two land speed cars.
Man Against the Salt by Harvey Shapiro The Story of Art Arfons and his record breaking cars. Well hard.
The Story of a Stanley Steamer by George Woodbury. Got me into steam cars
Cheers
