I'd buy it . . . give him $500 sight unseen.

Maybe more if I can have a good look

Thing is, it's got some PTP engine goodies which is all good, and if it's got some decent aftermarket suspension too, then it might be a great buy if it's in good nick, but there's just no excuse for adding a wing like that to an Elise, it's just not needed for stability and if you're adding it just for looks then you need your head read! :P

Looks like hes trying to replicate the look from the S1 Exige. But even then the S1 had a more refined wing at the sides than this. At least its an easy mod to change to any potential buyer.

Potentially a clam-off job to fix properly I'd suggest... I'd imagine his reserve is somewhere well north of 45k anyway... or rather it should be... with those mods and that mileage it should command a reasonable price.

Interesting to note that it's a 2000 but on early model wheels... There are a lot of "2000" cars that were actually very early ones that weren't registered in NZ until quite a bit later.

Peter Schnell's car is regd as a 2000 but his was built before mine, which is a '98.

Looks like the Eliseparts wing.

Does nothing for the looks imho. But the S1 is known to be a bit loose at high speed. I've done in excess of 150mph in mine on a deserted stretch of highway in the States and it was a little hairy to say the least, especially when trying to take a piccie for my road journal

I see it passed in at $32k with a reserve of $50k.

Would would be a fair private sale price and a fair car-yard sale price for this?

For the mods it's got, $50k would be a fair price (although that wing would put off most prospective buyers).

Elises go from about $39k for a scrappy S1 up to about $47k for a tidy low-mileage S1. Decent mods/extras add to this. There's little market for them though as there aren't many people out there with that sort of cash to spend on a toy like an Elise... those that do have lots of cash to spend tend to go for someting with a better badge.

Agreed for Elise prices but I wouldn't say people spend it on a better badge as each to their own. Anyone can own a second hand Merc, older Fezza or Lambo if thats what kiwis regard a better badge. I think its typical of kiwis to purchase something that they have seen many before, not in the too hard basket and plenty of service agents to match. I mean look at the top of the line Holdens and Fords full of mods you see driving around. My Dads best mate has spent around $150K on a new Holden equiped with Nos, large turbos and all ther other new gizmos you could possible stuff in there. A bit of a waste eh boxedin Theres no shortage of cash around for toys. The Lotus badge is regarded very highly in Europe and unfortunately still a bit unknown in this neck of the woods. tbh I like it like that. I am just thankful that some of you brits have had the good sense to bring some of these beautiful cars out with you. bow

Anyway regarding this Elise, mods or no mods I wouldn't pay anymore than $40K for it.

Kylie.... agreed... for those in the know, there IS no better badge than Lotus.... but for the mainstream, who don't recall a time where Lotus was king of the hill in world motorsport..... even in today's world, Lotus is the 4th most successful F1 manufacturer of all time, far and away ahead of those behind and not that far behind 2nd and 3rd..... I'm just saying that in NZ, Porsche and Ferrari are the only sportscar badges that matter.... if you take sports saloons into that then add BMW and Merc as well.... the rest are just also-rans. The true enthusiast brands like Lotus, TVR, and even Alfa Romeo are more forgotten through years of either producing mediocre cars or complete lack of marketing here.
