Waaaaay off topic, Golf in NZ

Me and the Missus have decided on a trip to NZ over Xmas and New Year and will be looking to play a few nice courses. Any Golf nuts on here who can recommend some "must play" tracks? Cape Kidnappers is already top of the wish list!

They have a golf course at Cape Kidnappers now? I'm from that area originally and things must have changed in the last few years

I've herd that the golf course at Wairakei resort near Taupo is pretty cool

What kind of course do you like?

I'd go for:
- Kauri Cliffs
- Gulf Harbour (personal bias)
- Wairakei
- Millbrook

Then there are others like South Head where Steve Williams is a member. Nobody dare say "Who?"

Hehe well you learn something new every day. Used to remember as a kiddie going out on tractor rides to the cape It's a very picturesque spot..... maybe I'll have to play a round next time I'm home.

Definitely play Wairakei, its my absolute favourite course. Kauri Cliffs is spectacular as well and more established than Cape Kidnappers. Kauri Cliffs is often ranked lower than Kidnappers in world rankings but is far more forgiving. Kidnappers, play it as early in the morning as you can bear because if the wind gets up you're stuffed. Gulf Harbour is a good course too but again, its tough. If you get the chance (not sure if its members and guests of members only or not) the Auckland Golf Club at Middlemore is brilliant as well- the NZ Open has been there a few times.

Paraparaumu near Wellington would be one of the more under-rated courses in NZ- they held the NZ Open there the year that Tiger came and played. If you wanted to play the home course of Michael Campbell, its at Titahi Bay just north of Wellington.

If you're looking for some cheaper, non-resort courses, try St Andrews in Hamilton (my home club) and the Mt Maunganui Golf Club course in the Bay of Plenty. Ngaruawahia isn't bad either, nor is Tauranga.

You will need to devise rules about sheep on the green if you are playing at some of the backwaters.

If you can scare the sheep off with a pitching wedge you play the ball where it lies. If you killed the sheep with a fly-ball it's G.U.R. and a free drop within one club length.
