A pal of mine with nearly 30 years experience in the specialist sportscar market in the UK is emigrating to NZ. What kind of employment prospects might there be?? Is there a strong following for British sportscars over there? His area of expertise is TVR/Lotus/Triumph in both sales and service. Many thanks for any responses and best regards to you all in sunny NZ!! Tony Abrams

Hi Tony

Whereabouts in NZ is he coming to?

I would probably describe the British Sportscar market in NZ as small but loyal (very small in the case of TVR).

If you would like, and can e-mail a few more details, I can forward them on to some industry contacts on Monday.

Hi Graham, and thanks for the reply. He's not set on any particular location although he seems to think that Auckland would be the commercial choice! He doesn't have to be TVR specific although he has a wealth of expertise with this marque, I think that he just wanted to make the point in his 'profile' that it is out of the normal volume Toyota/VW/Ford sphere of motor trade experience. Also he is hoping that if he has a career offer in place then this will make the logistics of the move easier, NZ is a difficult place to 'qualify' for I believe! I get the impression that if there was someone operating in this enthusiast-led marketplace who could use some help, he'd be the idael candidate. Otherwise if there was something along the line of european sportscar imports to NZ this could be a possibility. He's not sure if such a marketplace even exists.
Thanks again and best regards, Tony

It’s easier than it used to be, regulations have been relax over the last couple of years.

Given an apt level of experience it’s possible he could find a job working on “exotic” sports cars but given the small market it would be extremely difficult to concentrate on smaller brands.
