Are WRX's to much temptation?
Discussion
Yes it happened yesterday, some little fukcers tried to nick my WRX. It was at work in the staff car park of the Waikato Hospital and they smashed the rear drivers side window.
They couldn't do anything with it because its an '03 model with deadlocking doors and datadots. They didn't smash the steering column but had a good rout around inside. They left a tire iron inside the car which the police now have. The dusted the car door for prints but found nothing.
I'm so glad it wasn't larry lotus but may be they wouldn't have touched him.
I'm half tempted to trade the WRX in, but the other half loves it and doesn't want us to be forced to get rid of it by some little prciks. I fancy a new R32, but as she says that trade is going to cost us.
We used to live in Hawkes Bay but had to move to Hamilton with my job and so is a WRX to much of a risk/target in our cities?
(where's the blood and guts smiley)

there's a reason why WRX premiums are so high.... as an exercise, I got my friend to price up insurance for my Lotus (agreed value at just under $50k) and then figure out what spec/model/value of WRX falls into the same bracket premiums-wise..... Turns out a '97WRX STi with an agreed value of about $16k would cost me more than the Lotus.... theyr'e THE most targeted car in NZ and it's certainly a BIG reason why I'd not own one. Basially you want to make sure that the car's WELL armed alarm-wise and also that it's got plenty of the flashing LEDs that tell the scrotes that it's armed and there's no point going anywhere near it.
Sad news though... car crime in NZ is Police Priority #4459243 .... right there just below burglary and not being an asshole to everyone. :P

well that sucks, car theft doesn't seem to be such a problem down here in the south (or at least you never hear about it). Have still been thinking about getting an alarm/immobiliser for the Legacy all the same just to make sure.
It won't bring my insurance premiums down ( I asked about it) but an 'approved' immobiliser will reduce the theft excess if it is stolen.
P.s. if you think insurance on a WRX is bad for you, imagine what it would be like for me! being a young'un and all that, and therefore according to the mainstream insurance companies irresponsible, dangerous and much more likely to have my car stolen. despite my almost 4 years no-claims record and reasonably clean (1 speeding ticket) licence, I'm pretty sure I'd have to try some specialist insurance companies to get insured on anything with the dreaded T word associated with it.
(thats Turbo for anyone on the slow side - they wouldn't let dad put me on the insurance for his old Bighorn because it had one. even though it was a 2.5 tonne 3.1 diesel)

Had my STi broken into in the underground carpark at (my ex) work. The scrotes bent all of the window frames, wrenched 2 of the windows out of the frames an inch or two, pulled 3 of the door handles off, and broke the drivers side window.
I was running late for a meeting and foolishly left my wallet on the centre console. Got a call from the bank about 2 hours later that there had been some unusual spending on my cards - 5 gas stations in 60 minutes.

That really annoys me about the police. It's come to the point where all they are are a tick on the box when making an insurance claim! Why didn't they get the forecourt footage? For all they know the same people could be wanted for murder! Nine times out of ten the local old bill know the faces of the light fingered gits so it hardly stretches resources to watch five minutes of telly!
My WRX is well alarmed and just doesn't get left anywhere apart from at home (where I leave it unlocked - it's imbolized and I don't leave anything worth lifting inside it) or in our 'secure' carpark at work.
I'm seriously considering saving myself the $600 a year insurance and getting another tidy, reliable classic for the journey to work. A non-Tii BMW 2002 or a Triumph Dolly Sprint would fit the bill (although 'reliable' may be a stretch with the Dolly!).

Hi
You getting me worried.. My WRX is parked on the road outside the house...
Easter weekend the scroates broke into my company car... a Mitsi Challenger!! leaving the WRX parked next to it alone. Probably scared off by all the flashing blue LEDs in the WRX.
Anyone know where I can rent a garage in my part of Welly?? I need to hang on to the WRX to tow the toy car.

Heh only on PH, a WRX to tow the fun car...
Hehe yup.... always amazes me... Elise owners often seem to have subbys as second cars (Andy is a case in point, a few people on the Elise forums are the same) and you go to trackdays and you tell them the young'uns you've got a WRX as a second car and they can't see why you don't bring that as it's probably faster around the circuit than an Elise (a Rover one anyway).... but Andy will tell you that when you're faced with that choice, there's never even a moment's indecision.
