Ok ok, so it's not an NZ track, or even a proper race track, but as it's a Kiwi (me) in the drivers seat...

I'll try and edit (out the shocking lines & bad language!) the in-car cam and find a suitable home for it as well...

For those expat pommies, it's at the RAF Marham airfield, near King's Lynn in Norwich...

Well, as you'd expect it's pretty quick on the straights and I hit around 175ish mph on the main straight before I ran out of 'brass'...

I'm not sure if the cornering would be up to your Westie or a decent Seven replica, but it has almost no body roll that I could feel.

I need some serious practice or even a bit of instruction I think to really get the most out of it, and perhaps a decent set of road legal slicks, like a set of Kuhmo V70A's.

Still, only the first day of the season :-) so plenty more photos to come...

Cheers,
Pete

More practice and some quality instruction is the score. What other tracks are within range for you?

And what's the story with the photo on your profile?

Hmmm...

Bedford is probably the closest local track, but without uprating the mufflers I doubt I'll pass the 98db test! Maybe I can make it to Belgium, there the noise limits are a more sensible 120db , which is another reason that I don't intend on bringing it home with me...

Oh, that picture was me comparing the tiny original battery (from a jet ski) with the new spiral wound gel acid filled type, which now ensures that the car actually starts and will crank over for more that 10 seconds if need be...

I'll change it to the more snazzy foto of me in my outfit...

Pete

Pete great pics. Whats it like to shift with the gear stick down the drivers side of the door? Assuming this is built like some of the others I have seen? Or I am thinking another breed of car?

I meant something like Kumho v70a's, it's tricky finding a set of tyres that are wide enough to suit the Ult, let alone be track focused types, luckily I managed to secure a full set of practically new tyres for the bargain price of £500 (Yes, they're legit!)

It's fine, just like driving a EU car, the good thing is you can rest your arm on the drivers side side pod/sill...

Pretty much all Ultimas with the older style rod shifter G50 Porche box will have the shifter there (except US cars), as it's tricky to get the rods to go under the engine to the end of the box, there's a few pictures on the Ultima website that illustrate this.

Porches obviously don't have this issue as the engine is rearmost, not the gearbox...

The throw on the shift is quite short, and there is about 3 rods linked by CV joints, so you always had to be quite positive about it, but the new Swepco gearbox oil (after an LSD was fitted) seems to have improved matters somewhat...

Anyway, surely someone else must have some trackday footage to post up here ???
