Hi guys,

I have just received freight prices back form Gilco in Auckland who were referred to me by a friend. In short it was allot more than expected at $5,992.03 NZD from Perthshire to Southampton to NZ for a 20' container. Anyone got any suggestions or other "Respected" companies here in NZ or in the UK? I was expecting around $3500-4000 NZD.

Any help appreciated.

This purely for the container and its shipping or anything else (paperwork, packing of goods etc)?

We paid about £3400 for a 20" of household goods packed/unpaxcked all the paperwork (liverpool/chch). Vast bulk of that was the actual shipping.

I've heard these guys are cheap for the self moving stuff :

Sorry thought I was clear but needed to be clearer.

The cost is for the container to be delivered to Perthshire self loaded with 1 x XTR2 1 x nose cone and 4 rims/tires. Then sent to Southhampton and off to Wellington NZ. Price includes all paperwork etc basically to the warehouse but excludes insurance ($600-800).

Thanks.

Internal dimensions per 20'GP:
Length: 5900 mm / 19'5.4" ft
Width: 2352 mm / 7'8.3" ft
Height: 2390 mm / 7'10.8" ft

We measured it up and it all just fits.

The Westie is Overall length: 3686mm/145" + race nose cone + rims/tyres + a few spares.

You could use the height more couldnt you? build a platform over the westie for the otehr stuff and use 2/3rds or less of the container?

I beleive you still have to pay for the full container or are there smaller ones? I honestly don't think the container is the solution. If someone honestly thinks I'm being unrealistic then please say so. My main priority is the Westie getting here in the same condition as it left not being penny wise pound foolish.

Thanks so far.

Sounds about right if that figure is inclusive of GST.
We pay around 6.8k for an 20ft opentop (generally 1k over a normal box)from Italy.
Inland Euro freight and their port service charges are the killer.

You could look into a reffer container, slightly less volume (and cheaper) than a standard 20"

Yeah there chilled ones I think, but cheaper to rent than a normal one as there only 700cuft rather than 1000cuft.

Edit 99cuft instead of 1157cuft

Just been speaking to Gilco and through another shipping line they can do it for $1800US/2880NZD from the U.K to Auckland so that is much better than $1500UKP/$4290 NZD. What a differance.

Still working on the Perthshire to Southampton bit. Any Scottish PHer's up for a drive

The 911 is and this one is in it's final stages. I'll forward you on some emails to peruse. The freight from Perthshire to Southampton was the killer. 1/3 of the cost to send it to NZ. I'd rather fly over and drive it to Southampton (kidding, well sort of). I have decided it will be complied at a certain workshop in Auckland. NO peeking now

If you carry a 40kg weight penalty we could side-by-side 'em up the Northern motorway.

Oh hehe.... here's me thinking that on the newer westies they found a way to remove even MORE weight.... like me you'll be going on a diet soon eh? My next schedule of weight loss from the Elise involves removing non-essential material from the driver.
