Hey finally some new tread, stiiiiiicky!! MMmmm some light magnesium rims to compliment the tyres..?

Be interesting to see how they go for road use too. Mind the wet!! Let us know. Wish I found that tyre pressure info when I got my RA1's, nothing was available even after several emails to to the manufactures, no straight answers. Mag&Turbo insisted I fill a 1200kg car with 40psi cold inflation found out the hard way of course and now down to 26psi, of course you would have much less in the lise. Are you going to get them nitrogen filled? Would be the way to go No pissing around with gauges at the track.

Just to let you know Dean.... my wide magnesium rims are under 24 hour guard so don't get any ideas

Will be VERY interested to see how you get on as I'll have the "to sticky or not to sticky" decision to make in a month or four.

Tyre pressures are critical as you know, but going to Nitrogen fill ???, that might be going a bit far, wonder how much it is ? and how to maintain if you need to pump up at the track.....can't mix it with normal compressed air - loose the effect.

I'm only going to use these for trackdays and any spirited sunday driving.....

Well now that you mention lite weight rims......I have been labouring over the decision to buy a set of TMR rims (Front 4.95 kgs, Rear 5.75 kgs) standard Elise rims front 9.5 kgs, rear 11.5 kgs, so about a 20.6 kgs.........unsprung and rotating mass etc etc.

The guy who is selling them has given me a very attractive deal as I helped him sell two other sets to a mate in USA...............all very tempting.......if anyone else is keen let me know - Elise S1 & S2 only.

Off to break into the piggy bank....

HEhe not enough of a saving over my standard rims to be worth the cost.... given their lightness I'd not use those ones on the road.... keep them for the track only.

Mine are 7.2kg rear and 5.1kg front (from memory)

Anyone have any reason why i couldn't put a set of
195/50/16 and 225/45/17
on my 111R with standard 5.5"/16 and 7.5"/17 rims. These are just for track and fun Sundays as i have some yoko AD07's coming for normal use.

If this is a good idea, any ideas where i can get them cheap? Real cheap?

Just as a passing thought how do these compare to A048's

if it's the same deal for the 15"/16" combo on the S1 then the 195/225 combo will work but it's not optimal. IIRC though the case is a little worse for the 16/17"combo... you might like to check with the Elisetalk guys.

Based on my knowledge of the S1 deal, the 225s on the rear aren't really too much of a problem on standard rims.... it's sub-optimal, but nothing too bad. 0.5"-1" wider rear rims (as in the 340R/S160/111S wheels) are a more optimal size for the 225 rear. 205 is optimal on the standard S1 rim.

On the Fronts, 195s are too wide on the S1 rim but will work JUST and is very sub optimal. The wider front rims of the 340R/S160 sizes are a better bet and although a wider-still rim would be optimal, given the light front end of the Elise, the 195 works really well given the wider rims that are available.

The S2/111R may be different though... my knowledge is limited to the research I've done on S1s.

I'm just thankful that my wheels have measured to be unexpectedly larger than I thought.... 1" wider than sdandard front and rear means that it'll comfortly take the larger tyres.... all I need now is the bollox (and the brakes) to match.

If I get them they'll be track and the odd road trip, but as one of the guys on the SELOC forum said, they found them pretty robust after 2 years of used - road & track, HK road & track admittedly....

I guess it will depend on the size of the pot hole ? there's some big ones in NZ though.......

Yeah... fair enough.... you'll still have your standard wheels anyway.... it's all about how you drive.... if you're always on pothole alert then you should be okay.... mind you I buckled a rim in the TR7 ona pothole once, was filled with water, at night so couldn't see anything then BAM!!!!, it just about ripped my LF corner off!

Hi Guys

So i contacted my local tyre place and they phoned Toyo NZ and guess what?

Toyo NZ do not bring in 195/50/R16's or 225/45R17's in the R888's or in the RA01's. (For my 111R)

Contacted Yoko NZ they don't bring in A048's in those sizes either. I can't use 205's because they are to wide for my rims and i think my ABS will spit the dummy?

Any ideas?

Know anywhere in OZ who will send them to NZ?

All ideas appreciated, Andy

This is typical of how useless Toyo NZ is. What kind of distributor does not have the full stock range its just crap!! I had the same problems and rang around heaps of Companies that may have had them. I ended up dealing with Mag&Turbo down by the Strand - Parnell and they were helpful. I think they got mine in from OZ as well. All for corners including shipping and taxes were $2K. Different sizes to you of course.

Sorry guys & gals but I'm going to have to go into bat for Toyo NZ (Nation wide......LTD - Hamilton)
The R888 is a new model of tyre so it is in limit supply in the "odd" sizes as they make the most popular sizes first.

I have in my shed now R888 195/50-15 & 225/45-16 for the S1 - yes they where special order (195's) and over time will become a stock item as they get more popular.
I waited about 12 weeks but if your organised they can get them, knowing the wait period this isn't an issue and the order was direct from their factory.

Yes - OZ does stock a larger range but thats due to their market size & volume.
NZ is a small market compared to OZ so keeping stock of all sizes just doesn't make good business sense.
Don't forget a tyre has a limited shelf life, so have to be moved on pretty quickly.

I have dealt with Toyo NZ for 2 years and they have been honest and on time - tyres arriving when they said, give or take a few days - so no compliants from me.

Kylie sounds like you have had a bad run, don't give up on them, for the $$$$ you can't get better rubber, the 048's will cost you twice if not more and give you only a slightly better return for your dollar.....
I do remeber when you ran on them you where pretty happy with the stick they gave ?

Hey Dean,

Thats encouraging news as i thought i was heading down the same road as trying to get AD07's. (Which i ended up privately importing from the states.)

I've dropped Toyo NZ a nice e-mail asking them if they can get them for me. 12wks would be fine as it would give the piggy time to get used to the shock.

Dean we have actually met down at CLNZ Taupo in Oct last year. Check out the pic. I'm the big ugly guy next to the monkey.

Thanks again Andy

ps congrats on the little one.

Hi Andy, that photo silhouette looks familar.............

You have an S2 judging from the tyre sizes ? 16" & 17" ? what colour ?

I'm going to fit my R888 today and will hopefully find some fine weather this weekend to scrub them off......before going on track. Been suffering with traction after about 5 laps @ Pukie as the T1-R's start to over heat. The T1-r's are great up until that point, but there just not design for that much spirited track work.....:-), hoping the R888's will keep up with me and I'll keep the T1-R's for the road & as wets.......not that I like running on track in wet, especially Pukie - armco city !!

Let me know how you get on, I deal with Gavin at Nationwide.

Cheers Dean

As an aside... since you're going to be going to stickier tyres Andy, you REALLY should consider uprating your rear toe-links.... Dean and I and a couple of others are organising a group buy at present and need one more... might you be keen?

Hey Guys,

Good news, as Dean posted Toto seem quite helpful, I received an email from Toyo NZ today

Thank you for e-mail regarding Toyo race tyres. The sizes you are
referring to in your e-mail are relatively new R888 sizes from Toyo so
are not currently held in stock in New Zealand. We can certainly obtain
a set for you however there is a delay on receiving the tyres from Japan
of 4 months. If you would like to order these tyres please order them
through Fairview Mtrs in Hamilton or Race Rubber Services in
Christchurch, (our race tyre distributors)then we can have them for you
around August/September.

Regarding pricing, this will be at the discretion of either of these two
companies. Please contact them for the pricing, however the RRP is as
below.

225/45-17 R888 $349
195/50-16 R888 $319

With Best Regards

Graeme Allen
Marketing Manager

As Paul (v8sag) said I contacted Clive at Fairview and he is going to get back to me with a price. This is much better outcome than i was expecting and much more helpful than Yoko NZ.

Sorry George I don't think 111R's have had problems with there toe links if any change has been suggested for us its using a chassis brace to put the inner end of our ?toe links into a double shear arrangement. As I understand this has only been deemed necessary if you are running slicks. (Comes in the new supersport pack) With my nanny driving i doubt I will need it.

Thanks for all the direction guys
Andy
