Have any of you been on the road towards Otahome beach (South of Castle point and North of Rivers dale)? I have to admit that when I first came to New Zealand I thought driving over the Rimutaka hill pass was scary but at least that has tarmac, pretensions of safety fences/barriers in places and trees to slow your fall. However I have now found a road that has none of these and just to add that little bit more excitement/danger it’s strictly one lane in places.

So which public roads would you nominate as “brown pants” roads? (New Zealand seems to have an abundance of them).

I must say I find the average width and sight-lines of a number of 'typical' english country lanes to be

However, in the land-of-the-long-white-cloud, one of my favs is The Motu; a must for anyone who appreciates gravel

Auckland Motorway betweem 4:30 - 6:30 !!!!

O and if your in the Wellington area, try driving the length of Akatarawa Vally Road, it leads into the hills west of Upper Hutt and joins on the West Coast road at Waikanae.

I have driven most of the tarmac roads in the North island but this one takes the cake.....

Another vote for Akatarawa Rd. Every time we travel that road we have "close ones" and every time my wife is ill at the end

The road from Makara is another SCARY one...comes out by Johnsonville or somewhere around there?

All fun but scary.

Once came across a signposted 15km corner up round Coromandel somewhere on my Ducati and thought yeah sure 15km's (never seen one that low before) but my undies would now tell you it was definately a 15km corner!!! not 30km
