is on again as usual at easter - anybody else from here planning on going?

I just found out what Trevor Crowe is running this year, and its most amusing - he wants to break the 2WD record....

so he's got.....

...a Subaru Justy!

...with a mid-mounted 400bhp 2.5 WRX motor in it

isn't it brillant?

Very cool.

Must head down that way one Easter.

I've often thought that a CVT is the way to go with a 2WD gravel hill-climb car.

Now where's a 206, snow-mobile and a socket set . . .

does a CVT give instant power at the wheels whenever you want it though? never driven one myself, but with a manual you put your foot down to balance the car and its pretty instant response, autos will often fluff around for a while deciding what to do before suddenly kicking down halfway round the corner and trying to introduce you the scenery.

and would a CVT take the abuse? rallying is extremely hard on gearboxes. I guess a CVT wouldnt have the shock-load of shifting going through it the same though. hmmm.

CVT's can be made to cope with longish hill climbs at reasonable power outputs. If you wanted one for a 3-day rally you would need to restrict the power significantly.

The driving style would need to be altered significantly but the advantage of max available power right through the range would be fantastic.
