Tried my darndest to get the committee to agree to fork out $$ so everyone could have a spin for the next meet there. It works out about twice the cost of hiring the std short course we currently use. The non competing members of the committee said its a little unfair to be spending extra club money for stuff like this that they dont want to be part of But on the bright side, more and more people are wanting track days as we have had to develop a seperate race committee now so in the future things will be on the up.

They are hoping for next year to use the full track, now that theres a confirmed demand from members

I was under the impression that Taupo had offered CLNZ a FREE day's use of the new FULL track sometime this year as recompence for cancelling our "fun day" there in January?

Yip thats correct, the track day end of year was already booked and paid for, unless we can twist an arm to use the full track plus pay an extra price. However this would be for CLNZ members only though. They are still discussing this one. As every weekends pretty much taken the other option is to run the week day, dosent always work out though.

Can't we use that credit, set some numbers down and then charge the non members a bit more (sure they will all join quick ?) and try and get the full track, sure Geoff would be good at stating the case ?

Other than this, anyone know of any other tracks day there we could get in on ?
Watched the Porkers today on the TV - looked like a bit of fun, perfect for the Liz - lots second gear tight stuff :-)

O and wasn' the F! GPO good, best I have watch for some time !!! gut Buttons engined popped AT the finish line :-(

How about laps of Don McKinnon Drive in Albany. Located conveniently next to the Court House

On a more slighty more serious note the problem with most "other" days is the drifters

Don't know of any trackdays using the full track as of yet. Some people have made enquiries but I think as far as the "informal" trackday crowd goes (i.e private, non-MSNZ affiliated) they're not hiring the track at present because work is still ongoing getting all the support and safety facilities up and running.... or at least that's what word on the street is. I'd imagine that they're pretty much booked up right through winter in any case

Roll on Hampton Downs *crosses every appendage*

Come on Richard where are you ? - time for another "private" track day....I'd do a week day too !
I'm sure a referance from all the other people who went to your last track day will be enough to convince the lads at Taupo ??

I'd be keen to do one at Taupo on the full track... at least that full track might give my brakes a chance to run a little cooler

Don't count on it, the new track as some serious brake killing corners.....
George - I'd be keen on a mid week run, it's worth a day off torture (AKA work !)

Given that my current drive is a 1996 Laser - the Liz is still being fixed - I selfishly can't be bothered!

Once the Red Rocket is mobile again, I am sure I will have a burst of enthusiasm and organise something though...

I must have missed something Richard ??

Being the only Lotus not to have a 'moment' at your January TrackDay must have put the mockers on ya

Oh yes... you missed the news... I'll let Richard fill you in, but yes, Lizzy needed fixing.

And I didn't have a "moment" per se.... just outbraked myself.... I was in full control throughout the manoeuvre mostly

Had the priveledge of driving the new track 1 week before it opened. Through a friend of a friend we got an invite and about 10-15 911's and a few other cars (Mercs, BMW's etc) got a full day at the track. I thought it was awesome. Very technical with 18 corners IIRC. Quite a challenge in a laggy 911 Turbo but would be awesome in a XTR2. There was a motorbike powered car similar to a XTR2 and that thing was quick. The track wasn't quite finished and so we didn't go 100% as in some spots you couldn't clearly see where the track went etc. Managed 215km down the back straight and probably could've done 225km if the track was finished. No times taken that I was aware of. I got about 40-50 laps in but I left early around 2pm. We stopped for lunch and had a briefing of the business plan for the circuit and all amenities etc. We were then asked our opinion of the track etc, kind of like an evaluation. All in all it was a great day and a unique priviledge. Free drink, free food, free track time what more could you ask for!
